THE POWER RANKINGS: St. Michael’s climbs close to Stony Point atop Austin area Boys rankings
Top-ranked Stony Point took care of business last week with wins over Manor and Hutto. Those wins not only kept the Tigers atop our Power Rankings, but they set the table for huge games vs. Westwood and Round Rock with the district title on the line. Speaking of those two rivals, the Dragons won their rematch with the Warriors decisively to earn a split on the season. While Westwood slipped a spot, Liberty Hill cruised to two easy wins to (barely!) keep Round Rock behind them.
St. Michael’s nestled in behind Stony Point at #2 as the TAPPS powerhouse also swept their week. It’s so tempting to move the Warriors to the top spot, especially given that St. Michael’s defeated Stony Point. But that was way back in November. We’re just not convinced it would happen now and sadly, we’ll never know – but raise your hand if you’d like to see a rematch between those two.
Just behind the Top 5, East View powered past Elgin to claim a district title and leapfrog Westlake, who fell hard to bitter rival Lake Travis.
There were lots of opportunities for teams at the bottom of the Rankings to move up – but most everyone kept losing games. 4A Wimberley swept their games to move up a notch over McCallum. Nonetheless, the Knights clung to the final spot – for now.
