Suffice it to say, the “San Gabriel River Slugfest” didn’t live up to the hype.
While it appeared as if a vastly improved East View squad might be able to give perennial power Georgetown a tussle, the favored Eagles never let them in the game. Georgetown raced out to a commanding 45-7 halftime lead and cruised from there to a convincing 58-14 victory from Birkelbach Field Friday night (10/18) in the VYPE Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week on 102.7 FM ESPN Austin radio.
Sophomore quarterback Kaleb McDougle (12-22, 215 yds., 2 TDs) threw for two scoring strikes and junior running back Jett Walker (14-127) blew past the century mark on the ground to help the Eagles soar.
The tough loss dealt a severe blow to East View’s playoff chances. The Patriots (1-3, 3-4) now find themselves two games off the District 8-5A-1 playoff chase with three games remaining. East View hosts Killeen Chaparral in a must-win game Friday (10/25) night at Birkelbach in a game our East View VYPE crew will broadcast.
Georgetown’s convincing win lifted the Eagles (3-1, 6-1) into a three-way tie with Lake Belton and Leander for second place in the district, a game up on Rouse and a game back of Cedar Park. The Eagles face Glenn Friday night (10/25) at Bible Stadium.
