District 8-5A-DI play officially kicks off tonight for the Lufkin Panthers as they host the Willis Wildkats.
Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
Lufkin enters the game 2-1 on the year, while Willis is 1-2 overall. Lufkin has outscored opponents an impressive 126-31, while Willis has been on the other end of the spectrum being outscored 121-79.
This Friday night showdown is a collision course of District 8-5A-DI's top offense (Willis – 369.7 yards per game) and top defense (Lufkin – 253 yards per game), which should make for an interesting showdown. Willis will have to put on a better defensive showing though after giving up a district-worst 399.7 yards per game through three contests.

Lufkin – Jordan Moore (QB) – Moore has been solid this season. Moore has completed 62 percent of his passes this season for 470 yards and three touchdowns.
Lufkin – Ja'Lynn Polk (WR) – Polk is the top receiver threat in District 8-5A-DI. Polk is averaging a ridiculous 19.06 yards per catch. Through three games, Polk has reeled in 17 catches for 324 yards and three touchdowns.
Willis – Johnny McHenry (RB) – McHenry is the fifth-best rusher in the district with 210 yards on 28 carries, averaging 7.50 yards per carry. McHenry has scored three touchdowns.
Willis – Steele Bardwell (QB) – Bardwell is the best signal-caller in the district. Through the first few games, Willis has aired it out, Bardwell going 58-119 for 665 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.
