As a 14 year old quarterback on the West Brook freshman football team Bryce Anderson was a scoring machine, converting 62 touchdowns in 10 games. The talented athlete was unstoppable, dominating to the point that Bruins head varsity football coach Eric Peevey had no choice but to bring him up to the big time of varsity.
Anderson's athleticism was so prevalent that he would be switched from quarterback to safety at the top level. He would contribute all throughout the playoffs on defense and would see significant playing time during the Texas 6A D2 state final game versus Longview.
West Brook would narrowly lose that game 35-34 but Anderson's play in front of harrowing crowd of 50,000 screaming fans would solidify himself as one of the top freshman in the nation.
He was a big time player still two years from getting his drivers license. He had arrived.
"There was nothing like playing in front of that crowd," said Anderson.
"Now the nerves are gone and I've set the table for what I need to do as a player, Im ready to start the season."
A versatile athlete who can perform on both sides of the ball, Anderson will be asked by Peevey to be a true "slash" performer in 2019. Playing multiple positions in whatever role comes his way. An "athlete" in the true sense.
"Coach Peevey is going to have me play wherever I can," said Anderson.
"Im going to be playing safety, wide receiver, a little bit of quarterback when they need me there. Im also going to return kickoffs and punts."
With his breakout performance last season Anderson is getting significant attention from top programs in the country including recently receiving an offer from LSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor and Georgia Tech have also made offers.
Anderson will have three more seasons to show his talents and is looking long term at a program where he can contribute straight out of the gate as a freshman.
"Im looking for a school which has a good business program, I want to have the opportunity to play as a freshman with coaches who are close to their players, who have a family type program."
With his god given talents on the field Anderson's long term goals are team driven as he is looking at six to seven years of high school and collegiate competition.
"My high school goals are to get back to the state championship game. My individual goals will come with the team success," said Anderson.
"I would like to get all-state on both sides of the ball but that will come with our success."
Anderson is involved with West Brook's 7 on 7 summer season and has high hopes for the beginning of two a days in August. The Bruins begin their 2019 season at home versus Bellaire, August 30, at 7pm.
"We're looking good," said Anderson.
"We're working hard every day to prepare ourselves, Coach Peevey has been hard on us."
Anderson jersey number is "1" which will most likely be his recruiting standing as either a quarterback, strong safety, corner back, or free safety when he graduates in 2022.
