Paetow brings on Hicks as associate HC, five-star recruit Hicks Jr.

Paetow head football coach Lonnie Teagle confirmed rumors Tuesday afternoon that Allen assistant defensive coach David Hicks is coming on staff as associate head coach.

When reached, Hicks did not dispute Teagle’s claim but said he is still House 700 principal of Allen High School “as of right now.” Multiple media outlets also cited Hicks' arrival to the Class 5A-Division I state championship program.

Teagle said Hicks will have input into the Panthers' defense.

Hicks’ son is David Hicks Jr., a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end, five-star recruit, and the No. 6 recruit nationally in the Class of 2023, per 247 Sports. He is ranked as the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country.

David Jr. played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Katy ISD’s Morton Ranch High and David Sr. was an assistant coach and head track coach before moving to Allen to take a prominent role on Chad Morris’ coaching staff.

Last season at Allen, Hicks Jr. put together a first-team all-state season, compiling 98 tackles (54 solo), 23 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, one fumble recovery and two defensive touchdowns for the 11-3 Eagles.

Hicks Jr. holds 37 offers, including Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Clemson, Baylor, Georgia and Michigan, among others. He adds to a loaded Paetow defense that includes linebackers Alex Kilgore (three-star recruit class of 2023) and Daymion Sanford (three-star recruit class of 2023), safety C.J. Johnson, and defensive lineman Loghan Thomas (four-star recruit class of 2024).

David Hicks Sr. is a Grambling State alum who spent time with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs.
