Eyes on the Prize: McKinney Lions basketball expects greatness

McKinney High School basketball has been climbing their way to the top of the standings for quite a few seasons now. With a strong squad who continues to play strong, fans can expect the Lions to continue this season as strong as ever. VYPEDFW takes a dive into the Lions' season so far and what can be expected of them:

Last season, the Lions played hard throughout the entirety of their schedule. With an undefeated district record (12-0), McKinney basketball finished at the top of their district while defeating the likes of Prosper, Allen, school district rival McKinney Boyd, Denton Guyer, Denton Braswell and more en route to the playoffs. In the playoffs, the Lions posted a strong week one victory over Hebron, but fell in week two to an extremely strong Dallas Jesuit team. The team finished with only three losses to their name and an 89% winning percentage.

So far this season, the Lions have posted an incredible overall record. McKinney boasts a 90% winning percentage and a 17-2 overall record. The Lions have defeated the likes of Klein, Dickinson, Birdville, and more through the HoopFest and Whataburger Tournaments as well as their preseason play. In district, the Lions are currently undefeated and look for another strong push towards the playoffs.

With an excellent start to the season, fans can expect a strong playoff run from McKinney High School basketball this season. The squad can be expected to have a fast-paced, physical offense that is paired up with a defense who stays ready to force turnovers on the court.
