VYPE 411: New Deal's Football Standout - Dylan Jerden

Dylan Jerden was a key piece in New Deal's run to the UIL 2A state championship game.

Jerden was selected the District 2-2A Defensive MVP as a linebacker, and was also the 1st Team All-District TE for the third year in a row.

VYPE caught up with the New Deal star who was recently voted by the fans as a top prospect to watch in the 2019 season.

...

VYPE: Who has been your biggest influence in your sporting life? And Why?

JERDEN: My dad. I started playing football when I was 4 years old and my dad was always my coach. He's been my role model and I strive to be the athlete and man he was.

VYPE: What has been your greatest HS memory so far?

JERDEN: Our playoff run last year. Ever since I was a little boy, I watched the movie Friday Night Lights and my dream had been to play in a State Championship, and me and my brothers accomplished that last year. It was just amazing because we knew we could do it at the start of the season and we accomplished it.

VYPE: What's your biggest strength? Or What do You Bring to Your Team?

JERDEN: I think it would be leadership. My dad told me ever since my freshman year, "win the locker room over, lead by example and be coachable." Those are huge qualities that have been implemented in my life. Plus being a playmaker.

VYPE: What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?

JERDEN: Graduating from a D1 college that I played football at for 4 years, and getting a job somewhere in the business field or coaching.

VYPE: What advice would you give a younger athlete starting his/her HS career?

JERDEN: Train hard, live in the weight room, run a lot, be coachable, and make plays in whatever sport you play, and give all the glory to God in whatever circumstance.

VYPE: What do you do outside of sports?

JERDEN: I play a lot of NCAA Football 14, that's my favorite game ever, and I like to hang out with my friends and family. I also like to go fishing.

VYPE: What's the most important thing to you in your college recruitment process?

JERDEN: Just finding a place that will be my home for the next 4 years, and finding a program that will develop me as a football player and a man.
