NEW GAME IN TOWN: Maddock Back Home on the Diamond with Unique Philosophy
WHO MAKES THE BEST COACHES IN THE GAME OF SOFTBALL? YEP, YOU GUESSED IT, THE CATCHER.
They see all aspects of the game from behind the plate. They are usually the team leader and they are mentally and physically tough. They have to be.
Meet new Warriors’ coach Kate Maddock, who is coming home… sort of.
She was a varsity catcher for The Woodlands High School for three seasons before playing her college ball at Houston Baptist University. She was four-year starter and a two-time AllGreat West selection.
“Right after college, I was out of the game,” Maddock said. “I missed it so much and am so happy to have returned. Coming home to the area is awesome too. Being at TWCA is like being a part of a team. Everyone has each other’s back.”
Back in the dugout are first-team, all-district selections Mackenzie Morris at shortstop and Ashley Darilek, the catcher. Outfielders Reagan Harris, Mattie Hopkins and Katelyn McGrath will patrol the outfield after all-district selections. In the circle will be Katie Wise, a second-teamer.
“I’m looking for the girls to come out here, have a good time and work on their mental game,“ she said. “Softball is a game of failure and we will learn to fail well. Most teams who can do that will have success in the long run.
“I’m very big on hustle, heart and effort. If you are trying your best, I’m happy with that. We have so many multi-sport athletes who also really bring some competitiveness to the dugout.
