THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 10 Football Rankings; SV, Steele surge through gritty battles
27 Oct, 2025
District play is reaching its most volatile stretch, and the margins couldn’t be thinner among several of the area’s heavyweights. Each week seems to deliver another test of resilience — and Week 9 was no exception.
Cibolo Steele held off a determined San Marcos squad in a 27-21 battle that underscored the Knights’ poise under pressure. The win keeps Steele atop the rankings heading into a crucial matchup with Comal Canyon.
Elsewhere, Harlan continued to look the part of a powerhouse, staying unbeaten at 8-0 after rolling past Taft, while Brennan rebounded from its earlier district loss with a dominant shutout over Stevens. Both programs remain firmly in the thick of the 28-6A title chase.
In Class 5A, Smithson Valley may have all but secured a district crown after grinding out a 27-14 victory over New Braunfels, led by another balanced effort on both sides of the ball.
Boerne and Alamo Heights stayed in stride with convincing wins, though the Greyhounds’ upcoming clash with McCollum will determine whether they can maintain their hold near the top.
Meanwhile, SA Johnson (8-0) continued its dominance, handling LEE with ease to remain perfect, while Davenport extended its remarkable season to 9-0 — making a strong case as one of the most complete teams in all of Class 4A.

THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 9 Football Rankings; Pieper back on track with HUGE district win
21 Oct, 2025
As the calendar turns toward late October, the playoff picture is beginning to crystallize — and for several of the area’s top programs, Week 9 represents both a test of endurance and a chance to reinforce their momentum.
Harlan (7-0) continues to roll through 28-6A play, pairing offensive consistency with a defense that’s grown stingier each week. Brennan (6-1) stays close behind after a commanding 69-0 shutout, signaling that the Bears remain very much within the conversation.
Meanwhile, Johnson (7-0) continues its unblemished run through 27-6A, building a balanced attack that has quietly elevated them into the regional conversation.
In 5A, Smithson Valley (6-1) — the defending D1 State Champion — faces a pivotal matchup this week against New Braunfels (6-1), a team looking to bounce back after a narrow loss to Pieper (4-3).
That upset win marked Pieper’s re-entry into the Top-10, and it may prove to be the spark the Warriors needed entering the final stretch. Boerne (6-1) and Alamo Heights (7-1) also continue to set the standard among 5A-D2 contenders, each finding rhythm on both sides of the ball.
And in 4A, Davenport (8-0) keeps its unbeaten streak intact, once again demonstrating why it remains one of the area’s most complete teams. With the postseason drawing near, separation among the elite is minimal — but the stakes are quickly rising, and every snap from here on out feels heavier.

THE HIERARCHY: FINAL VYPE SATX Volleyball Rankings (Pre-Playoffs); O'Connor, Harlan, NB make up the Big-3
21 Oct, 2025
As the regular season winds down, the San Antonio volleyball landscape reveals a mix of teams peaking at the right time and others looking to shake off past postseason frustrations.
At the forefront, O’Connor (35-5) carries both an imposing record and the weight of last year’s early playoff exit, determined to make a more extensive run this time around.
Harlan (32-6) follows closely, hoping to replicate the momentum that carried them four rounds deep in 2024 before falling to eventual State Semifinalist Vandegrift in five sets.
In 5A, New Braunfels (39-5) has quietly positioned itself as the team to beat, riding a flawless 14-0 district slate. Pieper (30-10) and Boerne-Champion (25-6) could still disrupt expectations, offering the kind of upset potential that makes the playoffs unpredictable.
Comal Canyon (29-13) and Brennan (26-13) round out the 6A contenders, each showing the ability to translate steady regular-season performances into postseason bursts.
Davenport (32-8) stands out in 4A after reaching the State Final Four last fall, reminding opponents that past success can be a reliable predictor of postseason impact.
Meanwhile, Clark (23-15) and SA Reagan (28-12) are teams whose late-season surges hint at the deeper runs they could mount despite middling overall records.
The coming weeks will test consistency and the ability to perform when it matters most, offering the potential for both vindication and gold.
