Second Baptist School has solid performances at TAPPS State Swim meet

Joshua Koch
Feb 12, 2020

The Second Baptist School swim teams hit the road last week to Walker Natatorium to compete at the 2020 TAPPS State Swim Meet.

The men's team was going to be a major contender this season, considering there was only one swimmer lost off last year's fourth place team.

Eight swimmers – Ryan Calderon, Tanner Chapman, Spencer Locascio, Grant Mueller, Evan Steelman, Michael Towne, Jefferson Trammell, Brandon Young – were sent to the state meet this past weekend to compete.

In the end, the guys were able to rack up 208.5 points for a third place finish behind Tyler Grace (217) and Lutheran South (223). This marks the 11th straight year – and 12th of the last 16 – that Second Baptist School men's swim finished in the Top 4.

"There were five teams going into state about 20 points apart and we were one of them," Second Baptist School Coach Mark Hahn said. "I'm really happy for them. We went in seeded fourth and we came out third. They really swam great."

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Houston's 6A DI; DII playoff picture heading into final week

Jackson DiPasquale
03 Nov, 2025

The final week of the Texas high school football regular season is here — and that means one thing: it’s crunch time.

The playoff picture across Greater Houston is starting to take shape, with some programs already locked in, others battling for seeding, and a few needing one last win to punch their ticket to the postseason.

WHAT-A-TEAM: North Shore flexes over red-hot CE King

Matt Malatesta
03 Nov, 2025

The North Shore Mustangs have been the big brand in Greater Houston high school football for more than a decade. But after graduating a massive senior class, there were plenty of questions heading into the 2025 season.

When the Mustangs opened the year with a loss to South Oak Cliff, things got quiet on the #Eastside. Real quiet.

THE POWER RANKINGS: Austin area heavyweight domination freezes rankings

Merle Bertrand
03 Nov, 2025

The heavyweights poured it on against overmatched opponents at the top of this week’s Power Rankings. With #2 ranked Dripping Springs off in anticipation of their showdown with #3 Westlake, the other seven Top 8 teams, outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 401-81.

Aside from all that thunder and lightning, it took a pair of games decided by a total of five points to shake up the upper bracket. Specifically, Georgetown and Liberty Hill clambered over Weiss as the Wolves dropped a 35-31 contest with College Station. Then Hutto and Vista Ridge flip-flopped after the Hippos’ scintillating 35-34 thriller over the Rangers.
