Sachse is Young but Ready to Win Again in 2019
Only two teams in this eight-team district have double-digit returning starters back for 2019, which means there's going to be some learning curve and cohesion to work through for all teams in 2019. And the most amount of lettermen returning belongs to Garland Sachse with 26.
Which is a great jump-off point in looking at 10-6A, which will most likely see three of the four teams that made the playoffs last year back again.
Sachse went undefeated in district last year and bring eight starters - four on each side of the ball - back into the fold this year. The ground game will be the focal point, at least early on in the year, with three of those returning starters on the offensive line and running back Myles Nash looking to improve on his 2018 campaign. Sachse is stout up front on defense too, which will come in handy as a young secondary will have to grow.
After a 6-6 campaign that ended in the second round, Wylie looks to continue to improve under head coach Bill Howard. Wylie brings back nine starters and 25 lettermen, which includes wideout Malik Ford. The hope is injuries to the running back position does not force players to play out of position. Andrew Williams is the defensive stalwart Wylie will lean on to help the unit make significant improvement from last year.
Lakeview Centennial has talent at a couple skill positions to help take the district by storm. They have 12 starters returning from a team that was one game out from getting into the playoffs. A lost year due to injury for quarterback Jarrett Adams most likely cost Centennial a bit. So look for Adams to bounce back. Camar Wheaton should pick up right where he left off last year (1,160 yards and 15 touchdowns) on the way to another big season.
With only seven returning starters this year, Rowlett falls a bit down the ranks in district and could possibly get passed by Naaman Forest when all is said and done. Coach Doug Stephens has 21 lettermen back for 2019, but will need to work some magic to keep Rowlett in the playoff hunt this year as a young team comes together.
