On January 9, College Park alumni Austin Pruitt was traded to his hometown team, the Houston Astros.
Pruitt was a 2008 graduate and a star pitcher for the College Park baseball team coached under Jason Washburn. He is the first Cavalier Baseball player to reach the major leagues and his No.1 jersey was retired nearly two years ago.
After high school, Pruitt went on to play baseball at Navarro Junior College and was a part of the 2011 NJCAA JUCO World Series championship team. He transferred to the University of Houston after two seasons at Navarro College.
Pruitt was drafted two years later by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 9th round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft and made his MLB debut in 2017.
Pruitt pitched in 199 2/3 innings and had a 4.87 ERA during his three-year stint with the Tampa Bay Rays.
College Park and Astros fans alike are thrilled for Pruitt's new opportunity in Houston and are looking forward to see what he can accomplish in an Astros uniform.
