The Sleepers: Montgomery Bears
The Bears return their top attacker (senior Abby Meador) and setter (senior Isabella Fiaschetti), but otherwise need a lot of youngsters to step up to replace six key graduated seniors.
Meador averaged 2.3 kills per set last year and led Montgomery with 294 total kills. Fiaschetti averaged 5.2 assists per set. Experience is thin apart from that duo.
Senior Abby Wallingford and junior Lauren Williams will have to emerge as premier hitters.
The Bears will need someone to step up at the net defensively. Sophomore Hailey Admire could be that piece.
Defensively, Fiaschetti (1.7 digs per set) or junior Kaysie Lynch (1.4 digs per set) may have to step in.
If it’s Fiaschetti, Lynch has what it takes to pick up the slack at setter (4.6 assists per set). Look for sophomore Mckenzie Hope and senior Sophie Anzueto to make a difference this year. Hope is a talented hitter, and Anzueto is a skilled defensive specialist.
Former Kingwood Park coach Stormi Champion, who was previously an assistant at The Woodlands under Terri Wade, was hired this summer to take over the Bears volleyball program.
