THE SETUP: No. 9 Montgomery | VYPE Houston Volleyball 2026 Preseason Rankings

The featured standouts of the 2026–27 Montgomery Bears volleyball team.

Farrah Sheeren (VYPE)

Montgomery pieced together one of its most complete bodies of work (37-11) to date under head coach Stormi Champion last fall. The Lady Bears compiled a 37-11 record and advanced to the 5A Division II Regional Semifinals, where their momentum was halted by Georgetown in four sets.

The district slate remains as challenging as ever, including state finalist A&M Consolidated, College Station, and Lake Creek. Even so, there is ample reason to assume Montgomery can sustain its explosiveness on the attack.

Continuity and cohesion are certainly working in Atascocita’s favor heading into August. While other programs may naturally fluctuate from one cycle to the next, AHS still appears to be trending upward.

Last fall saw the Eagles (27-8) soar to their third straight undefeated district championship, sweep Deer Park in the opening round, and later see their run was cut short by Ridge Point in a five-set Area Round battle. Suffice it to say, coach Madeline Odom and company will be plenty motivated to reassert themselves as regional contenders.

THE SETUP: No. 11 Friendswood | VYPE Houston Volleyball 2026 Preseason Rankings

The featured standouts of the 2026–27 Friendswood Mustangs volleyball team.

Friendswood enjoyed a banner season in 2025, going 37-10 en route to the UIL State Semifinals and further cementing its place among the state’s elite programs. While generational talent Nadi'ya Shelby has moved on to the University of Florida, along with Caroline Adams (US Naval Academy) and Haley Patton (North Dakota), the cupboard is far from bare for coach Sarah Paulk.

At the forefront is Boise State (Beach Volleyball) commit Elaina Holtvluwer and Sarah Grace Hickl (SFA)—both outside hitters and first-team all-district selections a season ago—while younger sister Ashley Adams (Liberty commit), another first-teamer, steps in to direct the offense from the setter position. Senior Ellie Leitko will stabilize the middle for the Mustangs after being named District 20-5A Blocker of the Year.
