Shadow Creek 2022 WR headed to Baylor for Masters in football

Matt Malatesta
Aug 19, 2020

Randy Masters exploded onto the recruiting scene.

He was shot out of cannon in the second quarter of the Class 5A state title game on a kick return that took Denton Ryan off guard and helped give the Shadow Creek Sharks their first-ever state title in a 28-22 win at Arlington's AT&T Stadium.

As they say, it's been gravy ever since.

The news of Masters' combination of a 6-foot-1 frame and track explosiveness started to run through recruiting circles across the country as schools from LSU to Oregon would offer the Class of 2022 star.

But it's Baylor who has gotten his early commitment.

"I chose Baylor because it's close to home," he said. "The plan they have for me goes right with my future. I think they will help me get to my ultimate goal and that is to make it to the NFL. I want to be the CeeDee (Lamb) 2.0."

Masters had over 350 yards receiving in 2019 and was a second-team, all-district selection as a sophomore.

Baylor is also a comfortable landing spot as he is familiar with their players.

"My QB Kyron Drones will be there and so will my teammate Seth Jones, who is also a receiver," he said. "That makes it feel ever more like home."

HOUSTON - For many people the first time they ever heard about Corey "CJ" Hadnot probably came on Saturday night while scrolling through Twitter checking area basketball scores.

The Cypress Creek sophomore had hit a straight-away, buzzer-beating three to force double overtime against Lamar in a game they would go on to win 67-63. He also had five points in that double-overtime period to seal the win.

VYPE Houston Preseason Private School Softball: Others to Watch

Joshua Koch
25 Feb, 2021

Second Baptist School enters this season with six starters returning for Brandy Mardis' team. Once basketball season is over, Leyla Ertan will make her way over to the field. Becca Sloan enters her junior year and will patrol the outfield. Emma Garcia will settle in behind the plate. Rachel Riley is a two-time all-state pick, who will be the ace for the Eagles and is committed to the University of Pennsylvania. Also, watch for Emily Rogers at shortstop.

Bay Area Christian reached the second round of the TAPPS Division III playoffs in 2019. The Lady Broncos are young as juniors Amanda Pollock (P), Annelise Shaw (Utility), and sophomore catcher Alyson Griffith will star for the team. Pollock was named honorable mention, all-state as a freshman in 2019.

St. Pius X will be under new coach Rodney Smith this season. He will have some star power as rising recruit Victoria Hunter and UTSA-signee Emily Dear return for the Panthers in 2021.
