After dropping his Top 5 a little under a month ago, 2026 three-star defensive lineman Daryl Campbell made his commitment this past Friday.
Campbell committed to Vanderbilt over North Carolina, Houston, Texas Tech, and SMU among others.
For the 6'2 300lb DL, the relationship built with the Commodores staff and the promising 2024 football season they're building upon, Vanderbilt was the best fit.
“The constant recruitment Vanderbilt had been giving to me since they offered was like no other school that was recruiting me,” Campbell said. “After I got on campus and got to talk to Coach Lea, and looking how I can fit into the scheme and what they’re building, I knew it was the right fit for me.”
Vanderbilt was the one SEC program in Campbell’s Top 5 and the ability to play the best-of-the best meant a lot.
“It has always been one of my dreams to play in the SEC,” he said. “Playing with the best you’re going to be the best, the only way you get better is playing against people as good as or better than you and that’s what you get in the SEC.”
Campbell is now the 3rd straight defensive line prospect out of Paetow to commit to a Power Four program following in the footsteps of DJ Hicks (Texas A&M), and Carmello Brooks (Houston).
For the talented rising Senior, continuing on that next level DL tradition truly means the world.
“It’s a great testament to how coach Hicks trains us. I remember coming in my Freshman year and seeing DJ who was the best defensive lineman in the country and then seeing what he did with Mello when he came in,” Campbell said. “He helped me get my game to the same level of those guys and it’s honestly just a blessing. There is no Paetow without Coach Hicks and what he’s done with the defensive line here.”
Now committed, Campbell is ready to lock in on his Senior year and help Paetow make a deep playoff run.
The Willis Wildkats have become a productive winning program entering year 4 under head coach Trent Miller. The Wildkats have won back-to-back District Championships while also reaching the 3rd round of the playoffs each of the past two years.
With a lot of turnover from last year's team look for the Wildkats to rely on highly touted four-star ATH Jermaine Bishop Jr.
