Argyle quarterback Hayes Hackney was ruled ineligible by the District 3-5A DII Executive Committee in a meeting Oct. 20, 2026.

Argyle has been one of the hottest teams in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, if not the state.
The Eagles enter this week with a 7-1 record and are ranked No. 3 in the Class 5A Division II poll put out by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football/Associated Press.
Days ahead of a district game against Colleyville Heritage, the team learned they will have a new quarterback against their will.
The District 3-5A DII Executive Committee met on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and ruled quarterback Hayes Hackney ineligible for the remainder of the season.
Hackney transferred to the school earlier this year from Propser Walnut Grove. According to reports, he was ruled eligible in a May 20 meeting. Due to that ruling, the Eagles will not have to forfeit any of the seven wins, according to the Dallas Morning News.
However, the Eagles will be without a star player and at a critical junction following the 6-0 vote. According to various media reports, the ineligibility stemmed from a residency dispute.
That is not the first time that has happened this regular season. Lewisville quarterback Laykon Brassfield moved to Texas from Edmond, Oklahoma and played three games before being ruled ineligible for residency issues as well.
Lewisville had to forfeit three wins due to that ruling.
Hackney, a junior, broke onto the scene as a freshman at Walnut Grove. In his first year at Argyle, he has thrown for 2,574 yards and 32 touchdowns, with only 2 interceptions. He’s also run for 122 yards and 2 more touchdowns.
Last week, he was 23-for-25 passing — 92% — with 4 TDs and 320 yards in a 56-14 win over The Colony. He had developed a rapport with Texas Tech pledge Julian Caldwell and Oklahoma State pledge Ake O’Neal in his 8 weeks this season.
According to 247Sports, Hackney holds offers from UTSA and Stephen F. Austin. Hackney’s X account shows he recently visited Kansas State and TCU.
Sophomore Cobe Wilson has been the only other player to play quarterback this fall for the Eagles. He’s 4-for-8 passing for 82 yards and 1 touchdown.

If it wasn’t clear enough already, Seven Lakes made its statewide aspirations impossible to ignore with another victory over Tompkins last Friday.
Unlike their first meeting, which ended in a 3-0 sweep, the Spartans had to battle through five sensational sets to take down the Falcons once again. In doing so, Seven Lakes (28-10) improved to a perfect 14-0 in District 22-6A, securing the program’s first district championship since 2020.
Beyond the district crown, 2020 was also the year Seven Lakes put it all together to capture the Class 6A state championship — an intriguing parallel that adds another layer of significance to what head coach Amy Cataline’s squad is accomplishing now.
As far as talent goes, this group is as skilled as they come.
Senior Gracie Hobin continues to be brilliant from the pin, evidenced by her team-leading 439 kills and more than 250 digs.
The middle-blocking tandem of Willtrace “Wiggles” Ngoh and Nlonna Okwura might just be among the most gifted in Texas. Together, the duo has combined for nearly 500 kills and more than 200 blocks, while junior setter Ani Reyes has elevated her game considerably, dishing out 754 assists. Senior defensive specialist Emma Sabelli has been equally impressive, collecting nearly 350 digs of her own this fall.
With the playoffs beginning next week, it’s safe to say Seven Lakes has timed its hot streak to perfection.
