THE HIERARCHY: Updated VYPE DFW VB Rankings; Allen, Carroll, Lovejoy among elevating clubs
The high school volleyball season in Dallas-Fort Worth is off to a blistering start, and the latest VYPE Top-10 reflect a region stacked with elite programs in both Class 6A and 5A.
At the top, Byron Nelson continues to set the standard. The Bobcats, sitting at a flawless 22-0, have shown no signs of slowing down as they enter September undefeated and largely unchallenged.
Close behind, Allen (23-1) and Southlake Carroll (15-3) round out a 6A-heavy top tier. Allen’s deep roster and early wins over several ranked opponents have solidified its place as a state contender, while Carroll's only setbacks have come in tight matches against other ranked teams.
Keller (18-3), Plano West (14-3), and Mansfield (29-1) have also staked their claim in a crowded 6A field, with Mansfield in particular emerging as a quiet powerhouse with the most wins of any team in the rankings.
On the 5A side, perennial power Lovejoy (17-6) remains a threat despite a few early-season hiccups, with their strength of schedule arguably more demanding than most. Aledo (22-2) and McKinney North (18-3) have surged forward with impressive starts, while Frisco Liberty (16-3) continues to trend upward as a possible dark horse in postseason play.
Beyond the Top-10, several teams are positioning themselves for a breakthrough. In 6A, Duncanville, Hebron, and Flower Mound are names to watch, while 5A contenders like Argyle, Highland Park, and Wakeland could shake up the rankings in the coming weeks.
With district play just around the corner, expect even more shifts as the region’s deepest programs begin to collide. For now, though, Byron Nelson and Allen have established themselves as the teams to beat in DFW.

THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 2 Football Rankings; Steele flexes early, Pieper makes a statement
Week 1 of the high school football season brought a wave of convincing wins and eye-opening performances across the San Antonio metroplex, setting an early tone for what could be one of the more competitive years in recent memory.
Cibolo Steele left no doubt about its top spot, dominating Liberty Hill in a 45-10 rout. The Knights showcased a balanced attack and physical defense—qualities that have become synonymous with their program in recent years.
Just behind them, Smithson Valley looked every bit like a contender in the 5A ranks, overwhelming Roosevelt with a 62-6 statement win. The Rangers appear locked in as they aim to make a deeper postseason run this fall.
Brennan picked up perhaps the most battle-tested win of the weekend, grinding out a 21-13 victory over Reagan in a game defined by defense and disciplined execution. It was a measured, veteran-like performance that signals Brennan is ready for another strong year in 6A.
Meanwhile, Harlan lit up the scoreboard in a 48-40 shootout against East Central—an early sign that the Hawks’ offense can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the region.
Elsewhere, Johnson steamrolled Judson in a dominant showing, while Pieper pulled off one of the more significant wins of the week, edging past last year’s 5A Division II state semifinalist Boerne in a tight road contest.
New Braunfels also impressed with a 70-point explosion against Seguin, and Alamo Heights showed grit in a narrow win over Madison.
As the season continues, the San Antonio rankings remain fluid. With several teams flashing early playoff-caliber potential, Week 2 matchups may bring even more separation—or surprises.
