Evidently, the UIL Regional Quarters was a week for upsets.
Katy sweeping their district rival Tompkins, Cinco Ranch trouncing Ridge Point in Game No. 3, Clear Springs defeating Kingwood--these are the moments a baseball fan lives for.
Now that we’re into the fourth round of the Class 6A playoff race, these high school ball clubs are closing in on the chance to play for this year’s State Title.
Here’s the lineup for this week in H-Town baseball.

Cy Woods' hot-streak persists into Round No. 4 after outscoring Klein Oak 25-0 in another series sweep.
The series clincher saw several Wildcats share the spotlight, as the majority of the lineup made significant contributions to the 15-run barrage.
Just to name a few, senior 3B Ethan Farris went 2-for-3, with two runs scored and four batted in. Brady Sullivan (Sr. OF) had McClane Helton (Jr. 1B) each two RBIs, while Tristan Russell (Sr. SS) had three. On the mound, senior LHP Chase Morgan pitched a shutout with seven Ks through four innings before being retired.
Coach Phil Schwarz's squad will be traveling to Baylor Ballpark this week more emboldened than ever. The next obstacle in their path is Rockwall-Heath, so look for Cy Woods to make a statement.

2022-23 Playoffs:
The Highlanders made it clear that they're here for the long haul after their decisive victory over Tomball.
After a hard-fought game one victory, followed by an unfortunate error late in the second game tying up the series, The Woodlands made a statement with their 9-1 win to clinch the series.
Senior right-hander Ethan Coronel was stellar in the opener, shutting out a tough Cougars lineup, while sitting down six batters. Despite the bats being quiet early on, seniors Tyler Howard (4-8, 2 RBI, 4 R) and Logan Ellefson (4-8, 2 RBI, R) spearheaded the TWHS offense to the Regional Semis.
Their matchup this week invokes a little deja vu, as coach Ron Eastman's crew prepares to take on Rockwall--the team that defeated them almost a year ago to the day (2-1 series).
With the tension turned up to 11, this will be a series you won't want to miss.

DING... DING.. It's time to show up for ROUND 5 of the UIL Softball playoffs... and it's going to be a war.
Out of the eight remaining teams who advanced past the Regional Semis, four are from the Houston area -- primed to show they’re the best of the best in Texas.
With two prime-time matchups slotted for this week --- Bridgeland v. Langham Creek in Region II, and Deer Park v. Pearland in Region III--- the postseason hype has never been greater.
Here is a look at the H-Town powerhouses aiming to punch their ticket to Austin for the State Tournament.

Both of these ball clubs have a storied history in their pursuit of a State Championship.
Deer Park won it all in 2021 and narrowly missed out on a repeat last Spring.
Pearland's most recent title was acquired in 2010, but the squad they have now is more than capable of ending the drought.
With legendary coaches on both sides not to mention an all-star cast of players facing off, this series should go down as perhaps the most pivotal of the season.

2022-23 Playoffs:
This series will showcase an a heated rivalry between two Cy-Fair ISD powerhouses.
Bridgeland is coming off remarkable turnaround against Wylie, in which they fell in the series opener 2-5, only to respond with monster 16-5 and 10-1 victories in the subsequent matches.
The offensive onslaught in their two wins was spearheaded by senior LHP/OF Haylie Stum, who batted for just over .600, with 10 composite RBIs, three runs scored, plus a crowd-pleasing grand slam in the series clincher.
Props to senior C/SS Lilli Piersons, who hit 2-for-3 with five RBIs and a run scored, as well as juniors Chayne Allen (2-3, RBI, 5R) and Daniela Lopez (3-4, RBI, 2R), who also played major roles in the comeback effort in game two.
On the other side, Langham Creek is looking as scary as ever, especially with Emily Simmons on the mound.
The senior right-hander continues to cook through the postseason, most recently shutting out Midway in both of her starts, while racking up thirteen strikeouts with the Lobos stellar defense taking care of the rest.
Batting-wise, senior C/2B Kasey Simmons led the pack, hitting 5-for-7 in the two-game sweep, with two RBIs, three doubles, and a homer in the series opener.
This is the furthest either team has advanced in the playoffs, so expect the stands to be filled and the dugouts to be loud when they face off, starting Wednesday, at Cy Ranch High School.

A year removed from the State Semis, Deer Park Softball is within throwing distance of returning toAustin--in hopes of bringing some hardware back to campus.
With a group comprised of next-level senior athletes--Erin Perez (C), Bryanna Fuentes (IF), AngelinaMorales (1B), Lorelei Graham (OF), Aubrey Graham (P), Lindsey McKnight (OF), and more--Deer Parkis only six wins away from claiming another state championship (last won it in 2021).
VYPE’s Matt Malatesta caught up with third-year coach Amy Vidal-Bush, as she and her team prepare to take on Pearland in the Regional Finals.
