Who Tops Matt Malatesta's VYPE Mock Draft 1.0?

Matt Malatesta
Feb 04, 2020

K'Lavon Chaisson, North Shore, LSU

VYPE

The NFL Draft is not until April 23rd in Las Vegas, but it's never too early for a Mock Draft. How will Houston's talent be represented in the 2020 NFL Draft?

Here is VYPE's Matt Malatesta's Mock Draft 1.0.

No. 1 K'Lavon Chaisson, LSU, OLB, North Shore

The former North Shore product won a Class 6A Title and an NCAA National Title. He is an outside linebacker with tremendous rangy and speed.

…

No. 2 CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma, WR, Foster

This Falcon checks every box. The size, speed, and hands. He's hungry and will be a first-rounder.

…

No. 3 Grant Delpit, LSU, S, St. Thomas

Delpit transferred to IMG after his junior year at St. Thomas, but he's another product of "DBU" who can hit and cover.

…

No. 4 Josh Jones, Houston, OL, FB Bush

Has athletic, basketball feet for a big man. He played hoops at Bush, pass-blocked at UH and will be a 10-year vet in the NFL.

…

No. 5 Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma, LB, Elkins

Heat-seeking missile on defense. Was a beast in Big 12 with Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Big 12 accolades.

…

No. 6 Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma, QB, Channelview

Can't count this guy out. QBs at a premium.

…

No. 7 Ross Blacklock, TCU, DT, Elkins

Big man (6-4, 305-pounds) in the middle. Big 12 Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year. Will anchor at DL for years.

…

VYPE

Jalen Hurts, OU, Channelview

No. 8 Jordan Elliott, Missouri, DT, Westside

At 6-foot-4, 315-pounds, the Westside product had signed with Texas then transferred to Mizzou. He was All-SEC selection.

…

No. 9 Jordyn Brooks, Texas Tech, LB, Stratford

At 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, Brooks is a tackling machine

…

No. 10 Antoine Winfield Jr., Minnesota, DB, The Woodlands

Undersized safety but plays BIG like his NFL father. Made huge plays at Minnesota over three years of playing.

…

No. 11 Patrick Taylor, Jr. Memphis, RB, Atascocita

With Titan's Derrick Henry driving Tennessee to the AFC Championship, it helps Taylor's stock. At 6-foot-3, 230-pounds, Taylor is a beast and doesn't have much tread on the tires.

…

No. 12 Quartney Davis, Texas A&M, WR, Langham Creek

Slot WR had good career for Aggies. Great footwork, pretty good size. Great mid-round pick.

…

No. 13 Darius Anderson, TCU, RB, George Ranch

A versatile RB, who is a sleeper pick. Carried the Frogs in several games and helped himself in the Senior Bowl.

…

No. 14 Tyrie Cleveland, Florida, WR, Westfield

Great size. Not used that much at Florida. More as a decoy or blocker. Could catch on with special teams.

…

No. 15 Debione Renfro, Texas A&M, DB, Pearland

Long-shot, but had pretty good tape as a freshman. Has solid size.

…

No. 16 Braden Mann, Texas A&M, P, Cy-Fair

He had one of the greatest collegiate punting seasons of all time, Ray Guy Award Winner...how early will he go?

...

Who Stayed? Who are Top Prospects in 2021

LSU OL Austin Deculus from Cy-Fair (Stayed)

Northwestern LB Paddy Fisher of Katy (Stayed)

Stanford OL Walker Little from Episcopal (Stayed)

Alabama WR Jaylen Waddle from Episcopal (Sophomore)

Florida State DT Marvin Wilson from Episcopal (Stayed)

THE RANKINGS: No. 1 - Kingwood Mustangs

Matt Malatesta
07 Mar, 2025

Christa Williams-Yates was “her” during her playing days as the top prospect in the country. She played her college ball at Texas and won two Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2000. She is a USA National Softball Hall of Famer. Her confidence can be seen in her team.

The Mustangs shockingly knocked off the nation’s No. 1 Katy Tiger team in the Regional Finals a year ago to go to the State Final Four. She returns some absolute studs from that team, starting with shortstop Addy Sheppard, who has signed with Stanford. She’s a gamer.

THE RANKINGS: No. 2 - Katy Tigers

Matt Malatesta
07 Mar, 2025

A new era dawns on the west side of Houston as the Katy Tigers softball team will be under a new head coach for the first time in 26 years. But it is not an unfamiliar face.

Longtime-assistant Meghan Burrell takes over the program as she enters her 12th year on campus. Burrell takes over a group that went 38-3 a year ago and rose to be the No. 1-ranked team in the nation and reached the Class 6A Region III Final.

THE RANKINGS: No. 3 - Barbers Hill Eagles

Matt Malatesta
07 Mar, 2025

Aaron Fuller enters his 11th year leading the Barbers Hill softball program. At The Hill, Fuller has amassed 326 coaching wins and a state crown. Last year, the Eagles posted a 33-5-2 record and reached the Regional Semifinals before bowing out of the playoffs.

This team has plenty of firepower back in 2025 to contend for a deep playoff run. Kentucky-signee and reigning District MVP Hailey Nutter will lead the way.
