Two undefeated teams. One win.
January 10th marked the fourth Brookshire Royal girls' basketball game in UIL's 25-4A district. The game was Royal against Fulshear, a rivalry heightened by the teams' winning streaks. It was the most anticipated game of the season, with good reason. Both teams had good players, good coaching and a thirst to win.
The Royal Lady Falcons had recently won a basketball tournament at their home gym, and they were feeling pretty confident over the last few games. However, this game would test it.
Throughout most of the game, it seemed as if Royal and Fulshear were pretty even. There were many times during the game where both teams were tied, creating a thick tension over the gym. Both teams were on edge and seemed nervous, but Royal had the home court advantage, with its fans cheering on.
Although it was an intense game from both parts, it wasn't until the fourth quarter when the Lady Falcons were able to gain a definitive lead. With a confidence boost in the last quarter, the Lady Falcons were able to win the game by a 33-25 score. Adding one more victory to their undefeated belt makes them 4-0 in district games.
The tension was thick throughout the game but, like all games, the Lady Falcons had fun, showing off the skills that they had garnered through practice.
"Hard work pays off, especially when you're having fun," sophomore and basketball enthusiast Riki'ya Spencer said.
She couldn't have said it better. With the Lady Falcons working hard and enjoying the game, who knows what will happen next.
