The Bowie Bulldogs are typically gearing up to play their second district contest of the year by the time the seasons switch to Autumn. Instead, with District 26-6A reduced to just seven teams – Anderson dropped to 5A and Buda Johnson was redistricted south – the Bulldogs find themselves playing their fourth and final non-district game of the season Friday night (9/20).
A sea of red, white and black will flood Burger Stadium as the Dawgs face the Converse Judson Rockets in our VYPE Central Texas High School Football Game of the Week, simulcast on 102.7 FM ESPN Austin radio.
Long overlooked, thanks to being stuck in the same district as Westlake and Lake Travis, longtime Head Coach Jeff Able’s squad has their sights set on the playoffs. The Dawgs have defeated Manor, Vista Ridge and Glenn enroute to their perfect 3-0 start. Senior quarterback Cruz Tello (35-59, 554 Yds, 8 TD, 3 INT) and senior running back Kayson Mathabela (41-201 Yds, 4.9 VPC, 5 TD) pace an offense that’s averaging 46.3 points per game.
Judson carries a misleading 1-2 mark into Burger. The Rockets have sandwiched a narrow win over a good Hutto squad between near misses against SA Johnson and SA Roosevelt.
