Welcome back to the weekly ATX/SATX edition of Team of the Week. Each week we take a look at a team from across the San Antonio/Austin area and surrounding areas that impressed us for one reason or another.
This week we are giving the honor to the New Braunfels Unicorns football team. The Unicorns traveled to a neutral site location last Thursday to play the Denton Ryan Raiders and came up with the victory 34-33. The Raiders came in as one of the top teams in class 5A and were projected by many experts in the Texas High School football world to pull off the win. But New Braunfels had other plans. I came into the season wondering how New Braunfels would fair with the departure of Quarterback Aiden Baumann, but Leighton Adams came in and showed the Unicorns could be in good hands this season.
It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for the Unicorns to begin as they were down by as much as 19 points early in the 3rd quarter. But from that point on New Braunfels went on a 20-0 run to close the game, clinching the win with a Jacob Redding interception.

Adams finished the game 20-31 for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns, while the running back combo of Tyree Johnson (100 yards) and Mteule Pettes (93 yards) combined for almost 200 yards on the ground. The Unicorns will stay home this week to play 1-0 Seguin on Thursday September 1st at 7PM.
