The stars of 2025-26 Friendswood Basketball
No. 7 -- FRIENDSWOOD MUSTANGS
Don’t let Friendswood’s early playoff exit fool you — this team is built to win. Were it not for a tough first-round draw against a talented Barbers Hill squad, the Mustangs might’ve been playing deep into March.
Now entering his third season at the helm, head coach Danny Russell has a motivated group eager to prove last year was only a preview of what’s to come. The undisputed catalyst behind the ensuing stampede is junior point guard Chase Richardson, who’s quickly emerging as one of the Houston area’s brightest young stars.
While last year’s District MVP Dyllan Baker (now at St. Thomas) often drew the spotlight, Richardson was quietly making his own statement with a first-team, all-district campaign. Now, the four-star guard’s recruiting value has skyrocketed — boasting offers from Purdue, Notre Dame, Miami, Penn State, and Ole Miss.
Also returning is second-team senior Ronin Passons, a glue guy who impacts the game beyond the box score, along with junior Keshav Vijaykumar, a transfer from Fort Bend Clements where he last averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists per contest.
Together, they help round out a roster that has the tools —and the incentive — to silence the doubters.

No. 8 -- LA MARQUE COUGARS
La Marque’s dominance last winter left little doubt about its standing among Texas 4A’s elite. The Cougars stormed through District 29-4A without a blemish and advanced five rounds deep into the postseason, marking the program’s fourth overall trip to the UIL State Tournament.
Though their 49-44 Semifinal loss to Wheatley ended the dream run, the 38-3 finish spoke volumes about a team built on discipline and intensity. With head coach Kevin Wilcox back at the wheel, expectations remain high as the Cougars aim to reset the standard yet again in 2026.
Senior shooting guard Je’Caryous Oliver — a TABC 4A All-Region selection and dual-sport standout — headlines the returning group, while fellow seniors Brendan Harris (TABC All-Region) and Joshua Minix provide another dimension of veteran presence and proven experience.
If last year’s success was any indication, La Marque’s window for contention is far from closing.

The stars of 2025-26 George Ranch Basketball
No. 9 -- GEORGE RANCH LONGHORNS
George Ranch proved to be a breath of fresh air in Houston-area hoops last season. The Longhorns not only went 23-13, but also snapped a four-year playoff drought—making their first postseason appearance since 2020 and advancing three rounds deep in the 6A-D2 bracket.
In the wake of the graduation of 20-6A Offensive MVP and TABC All-Region pick Cayden Munnilal (now at Schreiner University), the Longhorns may see some adjustments. Yet, coach Brian Henry will have no shortage of firepower to work with.
The arrivals of senior standouts Brody Thornton and Kason Scipio, transfers from Fort Bend Bush and Austin respectively, give the group an immediate boost. Thornton, a 6-foot-6 forward and former 21-6A Co-MVP, will draw Division I attention, while Scipio’s length and versatility make him a tough cover on both ends.
Returning juniors Jevon Walker (10 ppg, 4 rpg) and Elijah Rubin, along with senior forward Adeolu “DD” Ogunsanya (8 ppg, 5 rpg), round out a balanced roster built to sustain last year’s momentum — and perhaps push even deeper this time around.
