Fort Bend Travis (8-0, 5-0 in District 20-6A) will try to clinch a share of the District 20-6A championship Friday at Hall Stadium vs. the Kempner Cougars. The game will be broadcast live on vypefortbend.com at 6:45PM.
Travis is having is best season ever, led by QB Eric Rodriguez, a great receiving corps featuring Parker Washington and Jarrell Farr, plus a running attack that strikes opponents between the tackles with the power of KJ Shankle and in the open field with scatback Aundre Smith.
The Tigers, 57-20 winners Saturday over Clements, also have a solid defense and an amazing kicker: Sergio Rubio has hit a 53-yard field goal this season.
Kempner (4-4, 2-3) is riding a two-game win streak with wins over Dulles and Austin and is back in the playoff picture. The Cougars will be a prohibitive underdog vs. Travis, but if they win their finale Nov. 8 vs. Clements and Bush loses its game vs. Austin Thursday, a three-way tie for the fourth playoff spot is a strong possibility. Ridge Point (4-1) has a firm grip on the second spot, and 3-2 Elkins currently holds on to the #3 playoff seed because of their win vs. Bush.
