Flower Mound has the Horses to Repeat in 2019
Putting my Alma Mater bias aside, as I want Lewisville to win everything, 6-6A is shaping up to be an interesting and possibly wild district to watch in 2019. While all four teams that made it last year could easily get back this year, their placements could be all over the place or a couple could be replaced.
With just nine starters back from last year's squad, Flower Mound will need to rely on that leadership if it wants to repeat in 2019. Running back Pierce Hudgens and quarterback Blake Short are just the players to help deliver coach Brian Basil another district title and hopefully a much deeper run than just getting to the tournament.
Hebron, with 15 starters back in 2019, should see a significant improvement in its district record over its 4-3 campaign last year. It did get to the regional semifinals, so the experience and talent is there to certainly challenge Flower Mound for the district crown this year. Carson Harris could very well be the overall district MVP with his dual-threat abilities, but the Hawks will need to replace the production lost from Trejan Bridges' graduation.
Year 3 in the Michael Odle reign should be interesting. Lewisville lost a lot of talent from last year's team and only return eight starters and 16 lettermen from a team that finished a surprising 9-3 and made it to the second round. Defense was where the Farmers made most of its noise last year as it was one of the best 6A defensive units in the area, and Lewisville need to rely on it again as inexperience at the quarterback position will force the offense to take its time to find a groove.
Coppell is a bit more inexperienced than the rest of the teams in the district but never short of talent on both sides of the ball. Five starters are back on offense, which should allow Coppell to go toe-to-toe with opponents and keep its inexperienced defense off the field. It would not be surprising, though, if Coppell is battling with Flower Mound Marcus for the final playoff spot this year.
