Georgetown sure knows how to kill the suspense.
The Eagles erupted for 17 unanswered 2nd quarter points to size control over East View and cruised to a convincing 31-8 win Friday night (10/17) in our VYPE Austin Central Texas Game of the Week.
The teams traded a couple of possessions each to start the game before Georgetown senior running back Jett Walker punched it in from 7-yards out late in the first quarter for the first score of the evening.
Meanwhile, the Eagles’ defense stymied the Patriots’ offense and helped Georgetown take over the game in that pivotal second frame. After the defense forced a punt, junior quarterback Kaleb McDougle connected with senior receiver Xavier Warren for a 16-yard scoring strike. The Eagles recovered a fumble on East View’s next possession and set up shop on the Patriots’ 20-yard line. Although the East View defense held firm, senior Sam Galaviz drilled a 31-yard field goal to nudge Georgetown’s lead up to 17-0. After Georgetown’s defense forced another punt, Walker’s second rushing touchdown from 10-yards out capped off a brisk drive sand staked the Eagles to a 24-0 halftime lead.
Walker found paydirt for the third time on a 9-yard scamper to cap off Georgetown’s first drive of the second half and nearly ice the game.
East View senior quarterback Cormyc Guerro found senior Makail De Leon on a short pass and Guerrero tacked on the 2-point conversion to get the Patriots on the board at 31-8. But that was as close as East View would get as the Eagles’ defense recovered a fumble and forced two turnovers on downs to seal the win.
Georgetown (4-0 in District 8-5A-2, 6-1) will look to avoid a letdown against winless Glenn Friday night (10/24). East View (3-1, 5-2) will travel to Killeen Friday night to take on the Chaparral Bobcats in a game that VYPE will broadcast.
