PREVIEW: Southlake Carroll fired up for 2023

Ranked in the top 5 of the VYPE DFW 6A Preseason Football Rankings, Southlake Carroll is fired up and ready to go this season. The team is looking toward what could be a fantastic season. VYPE DFW takes a look at what fans should expect:

REWIND

The Dragons posted an incredible record last year as they went 13-1 overall and 7-0 in district with a 93% winning percentage. Opening their season against non-district opponents like El Paso Eastwood (66-14), Flower Mound Marcus (38-7), and Cedar Hill (47-6), it was clear the Southlake Carroll was on a mission to be one of the best football teams in the 2022-23 season. The team opened district play with a shutout victory over Fort Worth Timber Creek (51-0) followed by another shut-out victory over Haltom City (62-0). Finishing undefeated at the top of their district standings, Southlake Carroll posted other victories over the likes of Keller (38-25), V.R. Eaton (42-7), Byron Nelson (38-23), and more.

In the playoffs, the team sent Crowley (52-13), Frenship (69-14), and McKinney (42-35) packing before falling to Denton Guyer (45-21).

LOOKING AHEAD

Athletes like Eric Garza, Caden Jackson, Travis Duwe, Carter Smith, Jackson Mirza, Mitchell Macaluso, Spencer Gillett, and more can be expected to make big plays this season. With a similar goal in mind-- to get further in playoffs this year-- the team will focus on one game at a time as they take down their opponents.

Opening their schedule on Friday, August 25 against Eastwood in front of a home crowd, Southlake Carroll is prepared for anything this season. Facing many of the same opponents as last year, the Dragons already know what to expect as they make another campaign toward playoffs. Once non-district play is over, Southlake Carroll opens district play on the road against Fort Worth Timber Creek in September.
