2020 Kingwood Mustangs Volleyball Preview

Welcome to the 2020 volleyball season. What a weird offseason it was for everyone. No club tournaments to travel to, limited training available but what that means is everyone should be fresh for the 2020 campaign.

VYPE previewed 30 public school teams in this year's VYPE Houston Volleyball Preview. Here is one of the Contenders - the Kingwood Mustangs.

Kingwood Mustangs

It's been 23 years since Kingwood has won a state title and 16 years since the 'Stangs have advanced to state. It's time to get things in gear, especially with one of the best hammers in the state. Kingwood won district last season but was swept by Clear Falls in the second round. Coach Christie Mewis earned her 400th - career win in 2019 and led her team to an unblemished district record. Gone is District MVP Breanna Burrell, but that opens the door for District Offensive MVP Megan Wilson (Oklahoma-commit) to step to the forefront. First-team hitter Sophie Ocampo returns for her junior season along with second teamers Kaitlyn Morgan and Temi Areola. Jordan Rambo will handle the setting duties and pick up the slack on defense. Sydney Hicks also sets and earned a second-team nod in 2019.
