On Saturday, November 21, The Woodlands Highlanders hosted Conroe at The Woodforest Bank Stadium at 2 PM for districts. The Highlanders were 3-0 in districts, while Conroe was 0-3. The Highlanders came out on top 38-35 against the Tigers.

In the first quarter, the Highlanders put the first points on the scoreboard with a 29 yard field goal kicked by Trey Harrison, putting the Woodlands up 3-0. Conroe then scores the first touchdown with the extra point for the final score of the first quarter 3-7.

In the second quarter, the Highlanders picked up momentum scoring their first touchdown ran by freshman Mabrey Mettauer after a 60 yard connection from Conner Dechiro to Teddy Knox. Along with the extra point, the Highlanders were up 10-7. Conroe then scored its second touchdown, along with the extra point, putting the Tigers up 10-14. After a sack fumble, Conroe scored its third touchdown of the day with the extra point, putting the Tigers on top 10-21. The Highlanders then scored their own touchdown with a 24 yard touchdown pass from Dechiro to Knox, along with the extra point for a 17-21 halftime score.

In the third quarter, after a series of connections between Dechiro and Ben Ferguson, Jobarre Reed takes it home from the three yard line for another Highlander touchdown. The extra point is cleared, putting the score at 24-21. Dechiro then takes it in from the one yard line for the fourth Highlander touchdown after a big completion by Knox. Extra point is counted, ending the third quarter with the score 31-21.

In the fourth quarter, Conroe scored its fourth touchdown, along with the extra point, putting the score at 31-28. The Highlanders then scored their fifth and final touchdown of the game with a 14 yard pass from Mettauer to Dresden Meermann. With the extra point, Woodlands is up 38-28. Then, the Tiger scored their final touchdown along with the extra point for the score 38-35. With at least 5 minutes left in the game, the Highlanders partook in kneeling formations to run the clock out for the overall final score 38-35.

Woodlands is now 4-0 in districts and Conroe 0-4. The Highlanders are scheduled to play their next and final district game against College Park on Friday, November 27, at The Woodforest Bank Stadium at 7 PM during the Thanksgiving break. College Park is 7-1 overall this season and 4-0 in districts.

This game should give us our 6A Region II District 13 champion. Come out and watch a good game after your day of giving thanks. Tickets can be purchased on TWHS Athletic Webpage.

Matt Malatesta
04 Mar, 2025

The Kingwood Park Panthers went 23-13 last season and snuck into the playoffs as the fourth seed. The Panthers would go three rounds deep before falling to eventual State Champ Melissa.

Coach Lindsay Gregory has tons of fire-power, led by shortstop Abbey Papadimitriou (Sam Houston-signee). Addison Gomez will also bring senior leadership.

THE RANKINGS: No. 18 - Clear Springs Chargers

Matt Malatesta
04 Mar, 2025

Consistency at the plate, the use of speed on the roster and solid defensive play behind the pitcher are three things Clear Springs coach Jennifer Knight believes will propel her team to a deep playoff run.

The Chargers went 22-11 a year ago and reached the Area Round of the playoffs. SIx starters return off that team for 2025 including first-team, all-district picks Erianna Garcia at catcher and Eryn Polite at third base. Garcia is committed to Abilene Christian University, while Polite is committed to Florida A&M.

THE RANKINGS: No. 19 - Bridgeland Bears

Matt Malatesta
04 Mar, 2025

Last year, Bridgeland went 33-7 overall and reached the Regional Semifinals. Candi Weige (164-53 at Bridgeland; 289 overall coaching wins) returns four starters off that squad, including McLennan Community College-commit Rylie Marquart.

Last season, Marquart hit .389 with 26 RBIs and 13 stolen bases earning her a first-team, all-district spot. Weige believes she will be a “conducive part to the program this year offensively and defensively”.
