The UIL Swimming & Diving State Meet concluded Saturday at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, bringing the winter season to a fitting close as the state’s top programs battled for podium positioning.
In Class 6A, The Woodlands captured the girls championship with 212.5 points, finishing ahead of Keller and Reagan. On the boys side, Marcus secured the title with 148 points, narrowly holding off Strake Jesuit and Southlake Carroll in a tightly contested race.
The 5A meet delivered similar excitement. Boerne Champion led the girls standings, followed by Frisco Reedy and Frisco Centennial. Meanwhile, A&M Consolidated edged a dramatic boys finish with 257.5 points, just ahead of Walnut Grove and Wakeland.
Relays shaped the team standings, but record-breaking individual swims defined a meet where athletes hit form when it mattered most.

The stars of 2025-26 Katy Taylor Baseball
Matt Powell (VYPE)
No. 6 -- Katy Taylor Mustangs (6A)
Momentum is already built into the culture at Katy Taylor. After pushing all the way to the Regional III Final a year ago, the Mustangs return with confidence—and continuity—still very much intact.
A 26-13-1 finish set the stage for what could be another deep spring as fifth-year head coach Russell Krenek welcomes back nine starters and continues to stack wins, now sitting at 91–53 at Katy Taylor and 266 overall.
The tone is set by Texas commit Bryce Krenek, a polished left-hander coming off a second-team all-state season and first-team all-district honors. He headlines a group that blends experience with flexibility across the diamond.

Shortstop Davidenko Rodriguez (UTSA) returns after earning honorable mention all-district recognition, while Ryan Hernis (Hill College) and Dylan Muniz (Angelina College) add depth and reliability. The lineup features proven production in the outfield with Zach Larsen and Cole Holsomback, alongside versatile pieces like Carlos Gamba, Caden Stambolis, Raul Leal, and David Harris. Zac Phillips and Matthew Campbell round out a roster built to adapt.
Krenek’s message is simple: play smart, enjoy the ride, and find a way to run it back.

The stars of 2025-26 Clear Lake Baseball
Bradley C. Collier (VYPE)
No. 7 -- Clear Lake Falcons (6A)
Clear Lake doesn’t have to sell belief—it’s already been tested. A run to the Regional Semifinals and a 24-11-3 record last spring confirmed the Falcons as more than a one-year story, and the pieces returning suggest that ceiling hasn’t been reached yet.
Seventh-year head coach Josh Bromberg brings back a group defined by its pitching, starting with Texas A&M signee Evan Mihaly, whose 2025 numbers read like a video game. The right-hander went 9–1 with a 0.54 ERA, piling up 116 strikeouts in just over 64 innings while earning honorable mention all-state recognition.

He’s far from alone. Texas Tech commit Jake Berry and LeTourneau commit Jared Jochim give Clear Lake multiple late-game options, while Preston Sommerville adds further depth on the staff. The batting order has teeth, too. Alvin Community College commit Langston Lee returns after a breakout season at the plate, and Hamline University commit Xavier Karus provides versatility across the field.
Around them, a mix of emerging contributors—Micah Morin, Jove Vestal-Peek, Cooper Jackson, Jacob McBride, Kaleb Biddy, and Kingston Whorton—round out a roster built for balance.
For Clear Lake, the path forward is simple: stay healthy, defend, and let the arms set the tone. The goal isn’t to repeat—it’s to finish.
