The featured standouts of the 2026–27 Memorial Mustangs volleyball team.
Matt Powell (VYPE)
The Memorial Mustangs took a significant step forward in 2025, finishing 28-11 and advancing to the Area Round of the postseason. Along the way, they captured an undefeated district championship—the program’s first since 2020—signaling the emergence of a team ready to compete at a high level.
Leading the charge is District Newcomer of the Year Tesa Solis. The Tulane commit totaled 234 kills last season and enters her senior year poised for an even greater impact.
Memorial also welcomes back a pair of first-team all-district selections in Mary Margaret Schwieder and setter Taylor Harting. Schwieder was the Mustangs’ most productive all-around weapon, leading the team with 274 kills while adding 422 digs. Harting orchestrated the offense with 446 assists and chipped in 259 digs, providing a steady presence on both sides of the ball.
Another player to watch is setter Bess Berg, whose versatility and depth give Memorial additional flexibility throughout the lineup.
Armed with experienced leadership, offensive balance, and a proven foundation, the Mustangs enter 2026 with legitimate expectations of making noise come November.

The Bellville Brahmas remain one of the premier programs in Class 4A volleyball. After finishing 36-14 overall, a perfect 10-0 in district play, and advancing to the 2025 State Semifinals, Bellville once again enters the season with championship aspirations. Tenured head coach Susan Brewer has built a winning culture that has made the Brahmas a perennial contender, and 2026 should be no exception.
The biggest challenge will be replacing first-team all-state honoree Rebecca Lucksinger, who served as the centerpiece of the program over the past several seasons. Her production and leadership will be difficult to replace, meaning Bellville will likely lean on a collective effort rather than a single go-to star.
Offensively, the Brahmas still bring plenty of firepower. Kinleigh Dinges and Bailey Locke lead the attack on the pins, while middle blockers Shelby Mercer and Brooke Berglund provide a strong presence at the net on both sides of the ball. Defensively, the back row is anchored by Anna Lischka and Summer Anderson, two standout defensive specialists who excel at extending rallies and frustrating opposing hitters.
With a balanced roster, a strong defensive foundation, and a sustained tradition of success, Bellville has the pieces and familiarity to stay firmly in the Class 4A state title conversation.

The Lake Creek Lions were named the VYPE Whataburger Team of the Year after capturing their fourth UIL State Championship in Austin. Coached by Candyce Carter, the Lions defeated the Fort Worth Brewer Lady Bears 6-5 in a thrilling 5A Division II title matchup, closing their impressive season with a 40-1 record.
The Lions' championship run included stellar performances from standouts like Madalyn Davis and pitcher Sara Wiggins. This recent title win marks an incredible stretch for the Lake Creek softball program, claiming four of the last five 5A state championships.
