San Antonio Wagner earned a 13-2 record and a UIL 5A Division I state semifinal finish in 2018, so it's gunning for another deep playoff run in 2019. The Thunderbirds have nine returning starters, and notable athletes in running back LJ Butler, cornerback Avante Stevens, receiver Joshua Cobbs and linemen DeMarcus Hendricks, Rafael Zertuche and Juan Aboytes.
San Antonio Veterans Memorial advanced to the UIL 5A Division I area round in its first varsity season in 2018, so it's planning for another successful campaign in 2019. Brackenridge was one and done in last year's UIL 5A Division I postseason, but its 12 returning starters should pave the way to another playoff appearance in 2019. The Eagles will lean on receiver Carlos Camargo, offensive lineman Diego Cornejo, quarterback Julian Cameron, running backs/defensive backs Justin Cabrera and Michael Puente and tight end/linebacker Jade Rios.
San Antonio Burbank won six games in its non-playoff season in 2018, but its 14 returning starters could result in a postseason appearance in 2019. The Bulldogs have notable players in running back Matthew Salazar, quarterback Toby Korrodi, defensive back Jose Flores and linemen Xavier Morris, Joe Klein and Guillermo Ortiz.
San Antonio Sam Houston recorded five wins and a UIL 5A Division I bi-district finish in 2018, but only has nine returning starters. The Hurricanes need big seasons from quarterback Raymond Citizen, running back Faiszon Reese, defensive backs Magnus Kirby and LaTrevious Reed, defensive linemen Ivan Reed and Romeo Losoya and defensive lineman/receiver Darrius Govan.
San Antonio Highlands won a pair of district games in 2018 and its 14 returning starters is a good starting point for the 2019 season. The Owls have defensive backs in John Stevenson and Isaiah Williams, quarterback Juan Luna and athlete D'Marrion Gonzales.
San Antonio Lanier only won two games in 2018 and is expected to find more success with its 14 returning starters in 2019. The Voks have quarterbacks in Fabian Maciel and Rocco Medina, a cornerback in Savian Perez and an athlete in Ricky Torres.
San Antonio Edison earned two of its three wins in district play during the 2018 season, and has 11 returning starters to make a move in 2019. The Golden Bears have offensive linemen in Josh Cortez and Abraham Salazar, a running back in Luke Converse, a quarterback in Chris Vasquez and a linebacker in Angel Carvajal.
San Antonio Jefferson won two games in 2018, but can improve upon that mark with its 10 returning starters in 2019. The Mustangs will lean on defensive back/receiver Isaac Gonzalez, defensive back Itler Mbula, defensive lineman Justin Amesquita and running back Ryan Villarreal.
