New Liberty Hill Head Coach David Seaborn understands the stratospheric expectations and comparisons that will come when his team plays on a field named for that program’s legendary former head coach. In fact, Seaborn, who has stalked the Panther Stadium sidelines of Jerry Vance Field as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning coordinator the past four seasons, embraces them.
“What attracted me most to coaching in Liberty Hill was the incredible sense of community, the quality of the kids, and the rich tradition of competitive athletics,” Seaborn states. “It’s a place where football matters, values are strong, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact is real."
Liberty Hill football is unique, even by pigskin-crazy Texas standards. Coaches indoctrinate grade schoolers attending their first football camps to the vaunted Slot-T offense Vance rode to back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007, (barely missing a three-peat in 2008). It’s the same offense that Vance’s successor, the late Jeff Walker rode to four straight playoff appearances including a state semifinal berth in 2018; the same offense Kent Walker used to take the Panthers to the state championship game in 2021 following his brother’s tragic death from cancer and two more state semifinal appearances in 2022 and 2023.
With Kent Walker moving south to Blanco, the torch passes to the 43-year-old Seaborn. An Austin native and graduate of Austin LBJ, Seaborn played collegiate ball at Texas Southern University before playing arena ball with the Austin Turfcats and semi-pro football with the Austin Vipers.
Seaborn gained coaching experience in multiple sports and bided his time with stints at Travis, Vista Ridge and Jarrell before landing at Liberty Hill in 2021. Together with Sheralyn, his wife of 15 years, son David, Jr., a senior at Liberty Hill, and daughter Saniya, an 8th-Grader at Santa Rita Middle School, Seaborn is ready to embrace the weight of the expectations his team will face, both on and off the field.
"My expectation is to put the best product on the field each week by demanding excellence, discipline, and relentless effort,” Seaborn states. “But more importantly, my mission is to equip our young men to become the best future fathers, husbands, and positive contributors to their communities.
“Football is the platform; we coach hearts and build men for life."

THE HIERARCHY: Updated VYPE HOU VB Rankings; Multiple teams ascend, along with New No. 1 // Powered by LOVB

2025-26 Cypress Ranch Volleyball
Bradley C. Collier (VYPE)
Just a few weeks into the high school volleyball season, and the Greater Houston landscape is already beginning to take shape – with a handful of shifts.
While some perennial contenders have held firm, others have surged forward with statement wins and breakout performances, setting the stage for what’s shaping up to be a wide-open fall.
Cypress Ranch has jumped to the top of the Class 6A rankings with an undefeated 11-0 start, showcasing depth and cohesion in nearly every phase of play. Not far behind is Dawson, quietly piecing together a dominant 14-1 run that suggests staying power deep into the season.
Grand Oaks, ranked third, remains firmly in the hunt — now with even more firepower. The return of two-time state MVP Halle Thompson from international duty with Team USA gives the Grizzlies a unique edge as they recalibrate for their upcoming 13-6A slate.
Several others are making early noise. Tompkins and Fulshear continue to flex their top-tier potential, while Bridgeland and Seven Lakes have remained steady behind strong core rotations.
Tomball has made perhaps the most dramatic leap, riding a 17-2 start into the top 10. And Clear Springs has been one of the season’s more welcome surprises — its offense has proven explosive and difficult to contain.
In 5A, Friendswood holds onto the No. 1 spot for now, though Montgomery has been steadily climbing behind the standout play of Delaney Wright and Ava Collins.
Barbers Hill and West Fork — the latter off to an impressive 17-3 start — are also subtly building strong résumés, hinting at a more competitive 5A race in the near future.
With district play fast approaching, the margins between elite and emerging teams are already razor-thin — and if early results are any indication, the top of the rankings may look very different by October.

For a program that’s made consistency its calling card, the Dawson Eagles are already setting a familiar tone in 2025—one built on execution and a competitive edge.
Since taking over in 2018, head coach Lauren Leth has crafted a culture that values the long haul. Her teams rarely just show up—they sustain. Formerly at Barbers Hill, Leth has guided Dawson to the postseason every year at the helm, extending what has become one of the most dependable playoff streaks in Texas volleyball.
That tradition doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Coming off a 32-11 campaign in 2024, Dawson is off to a scorching 14-1 start this fall. The Eagles went unbeaten at the Houston Invitational and appear poised to make another statement at the upcoming Volleypalooza Tournament in Austin.
Their only blemish so far—a five-set battle with Cypress Ranch—was the kind of loss that reflects strength more than setback.
Along the way, the team has notched statement wins over the likes of Tompkins, Ridge Point, Seven Lakes, Cy-Fair, Deer Park. and most recently, College Park. And while the postseason is always part of the conversation, the immediate focus is on reclaiming the District 22-6A title—no small feat in a group that includes Pearland, Shadow Creek, Manvel, and Dobie.
On the court, senior leadership remains the backbone.
Jenna Thedford (Texas A&M-commit), Avery Koonsen (SFA), Keaton Points (University of San Francisco), Destiny Lyons (Temple College), Julia Wright, Isabella Tijerina, and Grand Canyon University-bound sisters Taylor and Sloane Ranney bring experience and presence at nearly every position.
There’s also promising youth on the roster, including freshman setter Alexa Koonsen—Avery’s younger sister—who’s already shown the poise and timing to contribute when her number is called.
Through the early stretch of the season, Dawson continues to play with the control and confidence of a team that knows who it is—and more importantly, what it’s capable of becoming.
