Robert Jones enters his sixth season (45-25) of leading the Bay City Blackcats football program. Last year, the Blackcats went 10-3 overall and reached the Regional Semifinals. As they enter 2026, Bay City is seeking another trip to the playoffs. Fourteen starters return for the Blackcats led by QB Keimarion “Deuce” Wiggins, who passed for 1,443 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed for another 834 yards and 15 touchdowns. Wiggins was named the District 15-4A Utility Player of the Year in 2025. On defense, Braden Jones earned the District 15-4A Defensive Newcomer of the Year selection after racking up 108 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Keys to success for Jones’ team include staying healthy and playing fast and physical. “We have a lot of guys with varsity experience so the leadership will not be lacking this upcoming season,” Jones said.

Navasota enters the 2026 season coming off a year in which the Rattlers reached the second round of the playoffs. Third-year coach Trey Allen returns 11 starters with seven of those being on the offensive side of the ball. QB Jace Jablonski will pace the offense after passing for 3,179 yards and 41 touchdowns a year ago. Kyn’Navion Chappel will be the workhorse in the backfield, who last rushed for 1,258 yards and 11 touchdowns a year ago. Davyn Torres headlines the defense at linebacker following up a season in which he registered 84 tackles. Other crucial returners include Howard Payne commit Rodney Spinks, Da’Quan Pratt (Southeastern Oklahoma) and Mark McGinty (Texas Weslayan). Keys to success for the Rattlers in 2026 according to Allen will be offensive production, trench warfare and the passing attack.

Last season, Needville went 5-6 overall and reached the Bi-District round of the playoffs. The Blue Jays will look to capitalize on that foundation and have plenty of returning talent to do just that. First-year coach Jared Sloan takes over the program after previously serving as head coach at Hardin-Jefferson and Rice Consolidated. A total of 14 starters return for Sloan including first-team all-district QB Cameron Hall who passed for 1,806 yards and 14 touchdowns a year ago. Hall also rushed for an additional 362 yards and five scores. Kobie Campbell is back after a stellar sophomore season, in which he eclipsed the 1K rushing mark. Campbell tallied 1,009 yards on the ground and hit pay dirt 16 times. Campbell averaged over 100 yards rushing per game. WR Carter Hedt and athlete Ralphie Ortiz both earned second-team all-district nods after combining for more than 1,000 receiving yards and eight scores. Also watch for first-team all-district halfback Lincoln Wyatt. Defensively, Ortiz also earned a nod as a second-team all-district OLB, tallying 43 tackles and 12 sacks.

Coach Travis Reeve enters his fourth season of leading El Campo (18-16) and his 14th overall as a head coach. The Ricebirds went 6-5 overall a year ago and reached the Bi-District round of the playoffs. Thirteen starters return for El Campo including first-team all-district RB Vlad Garcia, who rushed for 1,272 yards and 17 TDs last year. The Ricebirds have more first-teamers returning from last year, including WR/DB Andy Russell (30 rec. 415 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INT), OL/DE Cade Stehling and DB Jackson Bystrek (4 INTs). Another key returner includes QB Colt Reeve, who passed for 987 yards and 10 TDs. Keys to success for the Ricebirds include strength on the offensive and defensive lines, developing depth at skill positions and being resilient.

The Columbia Roughnecks are coming off an 8-4 campaign, which saw them go undefeated in district play. The Roughnecks reached the Area Round of the playoffs and bring back 13 starters off that team. Texas State commit Michael Keen will anchor the offensive line after recording 21 pancakes a year ago and was named second-team all-district. Defensive District MVP Kriztopher Alvarez returns for the Roughnecks after recording 121 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and five sacks from the linebacker position. He was also named to the THSCA Super Elite Team. Other key returners include first-team all-district OL Aidan Jones (25 pancakes), second-team all-district WR Xavier Boozy (20 receptions, 188 yards, 1 TD; 35 carries, 257 yards, 3 TDs) and second-team LB Deondre Hart (103 tackles, 8 TFLs, 1 sack, 4 QB hurries). Other players to watch include OL/DL Benjamin Bailes, RB/LB Korbyn Faulkner and WR/LB Joshua FLores.

Sealy is coming off a remarkable season that saw the Tigers go 11-2 overall and reach the Regional Quarterfinals of the playoffs. But as the Tigers turn the page to 2026, there is a lot of talent and numbers to replace – including reigning MVP Kane Killough, who had more than 2,800 yards of offense and 36 touchdowns – as they were very senior heavy in 2025. Defensively, first-team all-district selections Clay Bartek (DT) and Colton Gilbert (DE) are set to return. Gilbert is back as the team leader in tackles, last registering 12.5 sacks, 107 tackles and 20 tackles for loss. Bartek chipped in five sacks, 68 tackles and six tackles for loss. Wideout Weston Cryan earned a nod on the first-team offense and as a second-team return specialist in 2025, finished with 405 receiving yards, 296 kick return yards and 56 punt return yards. Other players to watch include second-team all-district WR Parker Vesely (83 yards, 1 TD) and OG Reese Reichardt.

Royal finished the 2025 season at 4-6 overall and 3-3 in district play, which was good for a fifth-place result, but just on the outside of the playoff picture. Royal brings back a handful of talent on the defensive side of the ball led by first-team all-district DL Julius Gilmore, who led the team with 8.5 sacks in 2025. Gilmore also chipped in 46 tackles and 14 tackles for loss. Second-team all-district picks Zavion Shelton (DL) and Bradon Douglas (CB) are also set to return. The duo each registered 31 tackles apiece in 2025. Offensively, second-team all-district QB Emory Oliver is back under center, who last threw for 872 yards and eight scores and rushed for another 295 yards and two scores. Defense will be the calling card for Royal early on.
