VYPE Athlete Spotlight: Austin Novosad
In our new series, we catch up with Athletes from across Texas to get a look at not only who they are but what we can expect from them and their teams heading into the season.
Our first athlete is Quarterback Austin Novosad of Dripping Springs High School. Novosad burst onto the scene his Sophomore season throwing for 2, 673 yards and 35 TDs and only 4 Ints in 8 games played. He followed that up with 3,399 yards and 40 TDs last season and has set himself up as one of the best Quarterbacks in the state of Texas heading into his senior year. VYPE caught up with Novosad and asked him a few questions. Check out his answers below.
1. What was the best moment from the 2021 football season for you?
The best moment was when our team beat Seguin in our last district game to go 10-0 before heading into playoffs. We won with no time on the clock and a 2pt conversion to win it.
2. What was the biggest challenge for your team in 2021?
The biggest challenge for our team was our game against Canyon and Seguin where we won Canyon in overtime and Seguin with no time. Both games came down to the wire and we we able to overcome adversity and get the job done.
3. You’re team didn’t finish where y’all wanted to last season. What’s been the mindset of the returning players as y’all prepare not only for the new season but also with the move up to 6A?
Our team is very excited to go into 6A and play some of the best teams in the state. The mindset for our returners is to hit the year hard right now and KNOW that we can win every game we want to this upcoming season. As returners we look to show great leadership to the younger varsity players this year in order to have a successful season.
4. What are your personal goals for the 2022/2023 season?
My goal this season is to be a very efficient player and manage the offense the best I can to get W's for our team. I also look to grow my leadership role going into my senior season.
5. You’re committed to Baylor, first what was it about Baylor that sold you and what was the feeling when you knew that’s where you wanted to be?
I chose Baylor not only to have a great education but also to be coached by one of the best staffs in college football. Also the energy the team plays with is another reason I chose Baylor. It honestly feels great to have been in the recruiting process but now being committed I can focus on my upcoming.
Dripping Springs will play against the likes of Lake Travis and Westlake in District 26-6A and will start their season against Vandegrift Friday, August 26th at 7PM.
