VYPE Austin Central Texas Game of the Week Recap: Legacy Ranch smothers New Tech in debut

The folks from Legacy Ranch, Liberty Hill ISD’s new high school, had been waiting nearly three years to play a varsity football game. Their debut was essentially over after the first 12 minutes.

The Wranglers rolled on offense and smothered Manor New Tech on defense as they raced out to a 24-0 first quarter lead. Legacy Ranch tacked on four more touchdowns in the second quarter on their way to a 59-0 wipeout of the Titans in the VYPE Central Texas Game of the Week.

The record books will show that kicker Cody Hawkins’ 26-yard field goal following a short drive accounted for the first three points in school history.

Following another 3-and-out by the Legacy Ranch defense, the Wranglers took over again on the Titan 29-yard line. Junior quarterback Will Cunningham set the table with a 17-yard run to the 5-yard line before junior Troy Ramos punched it in from 5 yards out for the first varsity touchdown in program history. From there, the rout was on.

Legacy Ranch amassed a hefty and nearly balanced 297 yards of offense on the night, paced by Cunningham (9-16, 157 yards, 3 TDs and 1 rushing TD). Four other Wranglers – Jake Bruner, Blake Deshazo, Try Ramos (2) – reached the brand-new Wrangler Stadium end zone on carries. Meanwhile, Drew Langford, Reid Robertson and Ritvik Kasireddy all hauled in Cunningham touchdown passes.

The Wrangler defense did its part as well, holding New Tech to just 57 yards of total offense and recovering a fumble to repeatedly set up the Legacy Ranch offense with a short field.

Legacy Ranch (1-0) will face a much stiffer task in Week 2 when the Wranglers travel to Kerrville to face the Tivy Antlers Friday night (9/4). New Tech (0-1) will match up with crosstown rival Manor at the Manor ISD Athletic Complex on Friday.

VYPE Live will broadcast both games.
