2020 Deer Park Volleyball Preview

Welcome to the 2020 volleyball season. What a weird offseason it was for everyone. No club tournaments to travel to, limited training available but what that means is everyone should be fresh for the 2020 campaign.

VYPE previewed 30 public school teams in this year's VYPE Houston Volleyball Preview. Here is one of the Dark Horses - the Deer Park Deer.

Deer Park Deer

Consistent Power. That is one way to describe Deer Park volleyball. Since 1990, the Deer have been a constant in the playoffs. Last year, Deer Park (41-10) reached the Regional Tournament for the first time since 2011 but fell to Cy-Fair. The Deer will have to replace District 21-6A MVP Courtney Plocheck and Setter MVP Peyton Nance but do return Newcomer of the Year Tatum Smith (Southern Nazarene University-commit). The libero led the team with 620 digs. Another key returner includes second-team, all-district outside hitter Phoebe Stigen (University of Louisiana Monroe-commit). Stigen finished second on the team with 404 kills and chipped in 238 digs. Other players to watch include first-teamer Ella Harrell (618 assists) and second-teamers Katelyn Mallet (155 kills and 49 blocks), Kendall Nance (176 digs) and Jackie McGee (128 kills and 43 blocks). This team could make a run at a Regional Tourney again.
