Tomball sophomore Daniel Trousdale finishes second individually at the 6A Boys State Tournament

In Class 6A, Westlake reaffirmed its dynasty status, capturing its 15th state championship with a steady +2 (578) performance to edge out The Woodlands. The Chaparrals’ depth proved decisive, placing three golfers inside the top three, including individual medalist Henry Talarico, who fired a 2-under par. Tomball’s Daniel Trousdale followed closely behind at 1-under, while a tightly packed leaderboard underscored the competitiveness of the field.
Meanwhile, Class 5A showcased a razor-thin margin at the top, as Walnut Grove secured back-to-back state titles with a 1-under 575—just one stroke ahead of Highland Park. Powered by a dominant individual showing from Austin Randall (7-under par), the Wildcats held off a deep Scots contingent that placed multiple golfers among the top finishers.
From established powerhouses to emerging contenders, this year’s tournament highlighted both the staying power of elite programs and the growing depth of talent across Texas high school golf.

2028 Cypress Ranch four-star offensive tackle R'Monie Edwards got ranked as the number one player in the state of Texas and number one offensive tackle in the country earlier this offseason.
Edwards was a key piece to the Mustangs offense last fall starting at left tackle protecting Houston-commit quarterback Braden Baker.
For Edwards, being ranked as the number one player in the state and number one offensive tackle was a blessing but he understands the work only gets harder from here on out to remain as the top ranked player.
"It honestly means a lot to me to be ranked as the number one player in Texas and number one OT," Edwards said. "It's a blessing but I just got to keep working until my senior year to still end up being the top player in the state and the number one tackle in the nation."
Edwards recruitment picked up this offseason as well following the rankings dropping as he holds offers from the likes of Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Nebraska and Ole Miss to name a few.
The Cy Ranch offensive tackle has also been making his rounds out to spring practices and spring games this offseason to some big time programs.
"Last weekend I was at Texas A&M for their spring game and a couple days before that I was at Arizona State," he said. "I've also been to Texas and Oklahoma this spring as well."
Edwards also mentioned that schools like USC, UCLA, Oregon, Ohio State and Auburn have all been in contact as of late and he plans on making trips up to a few of those schools this summer.
As for his upcoming junior season, the number one offensive tackle plans on perfecting his craft to help the Mustangs make another deep playoff run in 2026.
"I really am trying to get stronger, increase all my max's in bench, squat and power clean and be able to do the things guys are doing at the college level," Edwards said. "I also want to work on my footwork and get my fundamentals down going into the season."

In addition to securing a third straight district title—this time outright—Boerne Champion (27-4-1) has firmly established itself atop the city’s rankings. Now, the Chargers set their sights on building off last spring’s run to the Region IV Final with a potential trip to the State Tournament, though the path won’t come easily.
Smithson Valley (25-5) brings the most recent experience navigating the trials that await a team with aspirations of reaching Dell Diamond, coming off its first trip to the championship game in 2025.
Class 5A features additional challengers such as Southwest (26-2), Boerne (22-10), and Pieper (16-11-1), while the 6A field is bolstered by proven contenders like Clemens (24-6-1), Sotomayor (19-6-1), Reagan (23-10), San Marcos (19-11-1), and Warren (20-9).
With May approaching, here’s a rundown of the region’s most seasoned ballclubs.
