Dekaney legend Trey Williams and VYPE's Matt Malatesta
Trey Williams: The Original VYPE Star
Before the explosion of Houston high school football coverage, before social media turned recruits into celebrities, there was Trey Williams — one of the first bona fide stars of the VYPE Media era, which dates back two decades.
The electrifying running back from Spring Dekaney was pure fast-twitch energy — smooth, confident, and surgical in his preparation. Williams didn’t just play the game; he transformed a brand-new school into a state powerhouse.
In 2012, he led the Dekaney Wildcats to a Class 5A State Championship, putting the program on the map and his name in Texas high school football history. Along the way, he amassed over 8,000 rushing yards in one of the state’s toughest districts and finished his prep career as the No. 4-ranked running back in the nation. He was, simply put, that dude.
Williams became a fixture at VYPE — gracing the cover of VYPE Magazine three times, an honor reserved for the elite of the elite.
Now, in a rare sit-down, Williams joins VYPE co-founder Matt Malatesta to reminisce about his legendary career — from his days at Dekaney to his choice to play at Texas A&M, and everything that’s followed since.
This is a can’t-miss conversation with one of Houston’s true Mt. Rushmore athletes of the past 20 years.

THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 9 Football Rankings; Pieper back on track with HUGE district win
21 Oct, 2025
As the calendar turns toward late October, the playoff picture is beginning to crystallize — and for several of the area’s top programs, Week 9 represents both a test of endurance and a chance to reinforce their momentum.
Harlan (7-0) continues to roll through 28-6A play, pairing offensive consistency with a defense that’s grown stingier each week. Brennan (6-1) stays close behind after a commanding 69-0 shutout, signaling that the Bears remain very much within the conversation.
Meanwhile, Johnson (7-0) continues its unblemished run through 27-6A, building a balanced attack that has quietly elevated them into the regional conversation.
In 5A, Smithson Valley (6-1) — the defending D1 State Champion — faces a pivotal matchup this week against New Braunfels (6-1), a team looking to bounce back after a narrow loss to Pieper (4-3).
That upset win marked Pieper’s re-entry into the Top-10, and it may prove to be the spark the Warriors needed entering the final stretch. Boerne (6-1) and Alamo Heights (7-1) also continue to set the standard among 5A-D2 contenders, each finding rhythm on both sides of the ball.
And in 4A, Davenport (8-0) keeps its unbeaten streak intact, once again demonstrating why it remains one of the area’s most complete teams. With the postseason drawing near, separation among the elite is minimal — but the stakes are quickly rising, and every snap from here on out feels heavier.
