It only took about 30 minutes for undefeated #2 Cedar Ridge to dispel any worries that they were looking past Stony Point to this Friday night’s showdown with top-ranked Westlake. Within those 30 minutes, the Raiders forced a punt and sophomore Deondre Crank capped off a 65-yard drive with a 5-yard run. Next, sophomore Beckett Lohman picked off a Tigers pass at the 29-yard line before Crank’s second rushing touchdown made it 14-0 sfter junior Jude Hartman’s PAT. A couple minutes later, senior Ayden Obrien-Brown’s 52-yard Pick 6 made it 21-0 Raiders.
That’s how the first quarter ended as Coach Bryan Vardemans’ Raiders (4-0, 8-0) rolled to an impressive 68-29 victory over the Tigers in last week’s VYPE Austin CenTex Game of the Week.
The Tigers dented the scoreboard early in the second quarter when senior quarterback Brady Davis (15-30, 269 yds., 4 TD, 2 INT) connected with senior Olamide Aroworade (7-165, 23.6 YPC, TD) on a 55-yard strike to make it 28-7 Raiders. But Cedar Ridge would score twice more before Stony Point scored again and the Raiders pulled away from there.
Plenty of people got involved in the scoring, especially for Cedar Ridge. Senior quarterback Dylan Snoga (14-21, 190 yds., 2 TD) connected with senior Terrez Harrison and junior Zaccai Williams on scoring strikes with senior Hunter Sellers finding sophomore Deondre Crank for an additional aerial score.
Junior Dasean Crank (9-106, 11.8 YPC, TD); senior Tyler Mutz (15-91, 6.1 YPC, 2 TD); Deondre Crank (2 TD) and senior Devin Patterson all logged rushing touchdowns for the Raiders.
Defensively, Lohman finished the night with two interceptions to go with the pick from Obrien-Brown. Meanwhile, junior Jack Gonzalez recovered a fumble to secure the Raiders’ fourth turnover.
In addition to the touchdown pass to Aroworade, Tigers quarterback Davis found junior Desmond Ferrill twice and senior Landon Boyd for scoring strikes.
Coach Dustin Pleasant’s Stony Point squad (2-3, 3-6) still remains mathematically alive heading into their Bye, although their final game is against Westlake on Nov. 6.
Cedar Ridge can now finally turn their attention to their showdown at Westlake Friday night (10/30) in a game that VYPE Live will broadcast.
