2027 Katy Tompkins four-star cornerback Blake Jenkins has announced his commitment to Michigan.
The four-star cornerback commits to the Wolverines over Vanderbilt, Texas, SMU and Houston among others.
The decision to commit to Michigan for Jenkins came down to playing high level Power Four football and new Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham.
"It's big time football in the Big 10," Jenkins said on what made him want to commit. "I feel like coach Whitt is building something special there and the foundation is set with the entire new staff there."
Michigan has history developing players to the NFL and that ability to be developed to the next level was another big factor in the Wolverines gaining Jenkins commitment.
"NFL potential is always there whenever you think of Michigan in general when you think of the defensive backs they've produced there over the past five to six years," he said. "That's one of the main reasons I committed and I know with coach Gilford there, they will have one of the best cornerback rooms in the country."
Jenkins makes his commitment ahead of his senior season which means a great deal to the Tompkins star as he can relieve some stress and focus on his last season in a Falcons uniform.
"It definitely relieves stress for sure knowing where home is going to be," Jenkins said. "I'm just ready to work this summer, getting bigger, getting stronger to be ready for my senior season and for playing in the 'Big House' after that."
With his commitment out of the way and a big senior season approaching, Jenkins and the Falcons are looking to have a big year next fall but the cornerback had one last message for Wolverine fans on his commitment.
"You got a hard worker and a dog for sure," he said. "I just can't wait to see the development of the program and to get the 2027 class moving."

The Katy Tigers are once again the queens of Texas softball.
Katy captured the Class 6A Division II State Championship with a convincing 7-2 victory over Forney, bringing the title back to one of the state's premier programs.
The Tigers' powerful lineup — dubbed "Death Valley" — was virtually unstoppable all season. The trio of EK Smith, an Oklahoma signee, Evie Willemssen, an Auburn commit, and Maddie Smith, an NC State signee, combined for an astounding 64 home runs and provided one of the most feared offenses in Texas.
In the circle, freshman sensation Haley Schmitt was dominant from start to finish, posting a remarkable 0.59 ERA and emerging as one of the state's brightest young stars.
While it's been seven years since Katy last hoisted a state championship trophy, the wait proved well worth it as the Tigers reclaimed their place atop Texas high school softball.
VYPE's Matt Malatesta caught up with the players and head coach Meghan VanEtta after the final out and championship celebration.

LAKE CREEK LIONS
It's a historic moment for Lake Creek. Just one week after the school's softball program captured its second consecutive UIL title, the Lions' baseball team is set to make its first-ever appearance on the State stage Friday.
Dell Diamond awaits a Lake Creek (26-17) squad coming off a dramatic, series-saving rally against Rouse in the semifinal round. After dropping Game 1, 7-3, the Lions responded with a 9-6 win in Game 2 before securing a decisive 2-1 victory in the winner-take-all finale to punch their ticket to state.
Beyond embracing the underdog role throughout the postseason, Schramm's squad boasts a lineup capable of changing a game at any point in the order.
LSU-Eunice commit Peyton Trummell (Sr. OF) set a new program single-season home run record (8) less than two weeks ago and most recently delivered a pair of timely RBIs that helped swing the semifinal series against Rouse in Lake Creek's favor.
Fellow seniors Jackson Marshall (UNC Asheville commit) and Reed Newkirk (Army)—both recently selected to the GHBCA All-Star Game alongside Trummell—are hitting well above .300 while patrolling the outfield. The production continues in the infield, where juniors Jaxon Schramm and Aiden Rossano are posting similar numbers, with Schramm leading the Lions at a .374 clip this season.
Meanwhile, Lake Creek's pitching staff thrives on its depth, led by seniors Harper Heathcott (Temple College) and Gavin Nabors (Angelina College), along with junior Kale White and a host of other reliable arms.

ALEDO BEARCATS
The Bearcats find themselves right where they left off a year ago, returning to Round Rock with the confidence and magnetism expected of a defending state champion.
Now, head coach Chad Barry and company have their sights set on the program's third state title. Aledo (38-3) secured its place in the season finale with a commanding sweep of McKinney North in last week's semifinal series.
Reigning 5A Division I State MVP Lucas Nawrocki was instrumental in Aledo's return to the championship stage, launching a go-ahead grand slam—his 10th home run of the season—that ultimately sealed Game 2.
The LSU-bound senior has been dominant on both sides of the ball. In addition to hitting north of .500, the left-hander owns an 11-0 record on the mound, cementing his status as one of the state's premier two-way talents.
Aledo's depth extends well beyond its headliner. Junior outfielder Luke Gladchuk (Texas commit) is hitting just under .400 this season, while senior Landon Barnes (Weatherford College), utility standout Wilson Sehnem, and future Murray State Racer Will Cayce help form the foundation of one of the state's most complete rosters.
