The featured standouts of the 2026-27 C.E. King Lady Panthers basketball team.
No. 8 C.E. King Panthers
A 30-win season has put C.E. King firmly on the radar in Houston-area girls basketball. Following an impressive 30-8 showing that featured a district runner-up finish and an Area Round appearance, head coach Alexandra Bowman’s squad has its sights set on taking another step forward.
Seniors Tiana Patterson, Ja’myah Crout and Jaelyn Blackshire provide a veteran presence, while junior Skylar Conway, the team’s leading returning scorer, figures to be a focal point offensively. Sophomore Mia Zuniga is another name to watch as she prepares to assume an expanded role.
The challenge? Navigating a loaded district featuring back-to-back state champion Summer Creek and a formidable North Shore squad. Consistency will be paramount against that level of competition, but the Panthers have already demonstrated their ability to compete at a high level.
With valuable postseason experience under their belts, C.E. King has plenty of reasons to aim higher in 2026-27.
The featured standouts of the 2026-27 Katy Jordan Lady Warriors basketball team.
No. 9 Jordan Warriors
The Jordan Warriors reached new heights last season, posting a 25-8 record (12-4 in district) en route to a historic third-round playoff appearance.
Having surpassed 250 career wins, head coach Shalesha Pierce has established an impressive precedent for a program eager to build on its recent breakthrough. Senior guard Carlie Lewis, an East Central University commit, returns alongside fellow senior Natalie Epstein, providing the Warriors with veteran experience in the backcourt and frontcourt, respectively.
Meanwhile, sophomore Tessa Arnoldi and junior post Toni Ademuwagun figure to assume expanded roles as Jordan looks to replace key production without sacrificing its competitive edge. Last year's postseason showing was more than a milestone — it was a statement of the program's potential.
The standard has been raised, and Pierce's squad now faces the challenge of proving that its historic ascent was only the beginning.
The featured standouts of the 2026-27 Hightower Lady Hurricanes basketball team.
No. 10 Hightower Hurricanes
Coach Jasmine Brewer and the Hightower Hurricanes are coming off a remarkable 31-4 season that ended in the Regional Finals. But with the departure of Ogechi Okeke, the state's No. 1 recruit who transferred to Oak Cliff Faith Family, the Hurricanes have a significant void to fill.
The challenge is clear: reload, regroup and prove Hightower is still a force in the postseason picture. Fortunately, Brewer has plenty of talent to work with. Northwestern State commit Eryn Roberts returns to lead the way alongside Sucil Stephens, Kameryn Walker and A’aliyah Wood.
That veteran core will be instrumental as the Hurricanes embrace new roles and find their rhythm. For Brewer, the identity of this team goes beyond talent. It's about the bond between teammates and how they respond to adversity. “Sisterhood isn't proven when everything is going well,” Brewer said. “It’s proven when things get hard, emotions get high, mistakes happen, and we still choose ‘WE’ over ‘ME’.”
Brewer emphasizes embracing the process, mental toughness and steady improvement throughout the season. The Hurricanes may have a different look in 2026-27, but their commitment to sisterhood and another deep postseason push hasn't wavered.
