For the second-straight year, North Shore, Shadow Creek and Fort Bend Marshall will be playing for spots at AT&T Stadium. No one should be surprised with how much talent each group brought back for 2019.
Start with Fort Bend Marshall.
The Buffs walked into a rematch against Manvel on Saturday. Earlier this season, Manvel defeated FB Marshall 38-34, would the result be the same in Round 2? Not by a long shot.
Fort Bend Marshall's defense frustrated Tucker Yarbrough and company, while Devon Achane and Malike Hornsby put up big numbers - Hornsby going 8 of 14 for 264 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 135 yards and Achane rushing for 132 yards and four touchdowns - on the way to a 40-10 victory.
Heading into this showdown, Hornsby playing clean and better than he had the previous couple of weeks was key. He did just that, having one of his better games of the playoffs.
Now, Fort Bend Marshall faces Boerne Champion on Saturday, December 14 at Kyle Field with kickoff slated for 3 p.m.
How about the defending State Champion North Shore Mustangs? Could they get back to another State Semifinal?
The Mustangs trailed 21-14 after a quarter against Atascocita, which had dismantled Katy Tompkins a week prior. But that wouldn't last long. North Shore outscored Atascocita 27-0 in the second quarter to pull away 41-21 at the half. North Shore piled it on eventually to win 76-49.
North Shore racked up an amazing 804 yards of total offense, with 492 of it coming on the ground against an Atascocita defense that smothered a potent Tompkins' rushing attack last week.
But Dematrius Davis is a whole other assignment.
The Virginia Tech-commit did it again. For a second-straight week, Davis hurt a team with his arm and his legs. After rushing for 283 yards last week against Katy, the junior outdid that performance running for 293 yards and three touchdowns, while going 10 of 13 for 312 yards and two more scores.
Zach Evans carried the ball 18 times for 169 yards and four touchdowns and had two catches for 104 yards and a score in the win.
The North Shore offense is absolutely ridiculous as Davis has rushed for nearly 600 yards in the past two weeks and thrown for more 400 to go with it. Evans has rushed for nearly 300 yards the last two outings combined.
North Shore gets Lake Travis again in the State Semifinals. This time the game will be played on the Cavs' turf in at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex (Round Rock ISD) on Saturday, December 14 with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
