The Glenn Grizzlies’ first season under new head coach Scott Hermes got off to a decent start. The Grizzlies led Stony Point 14-3 when Mother Nature forced their season opener to be suspended two weeks ago.
Last week, however, Glenn gave up a kick-off return for a touchdown on the game’s opening play vs. Davenport, then fumbled the ball at their own 13-yard line on their first possession. The Wolves scored and never looked back as the Grizzlies fell to Davenport 58-20.
Glenn faces perhaps an even tougher opponent when they face the Weiss Wolves from The Pfield in Pflugerville to open District 12-5A-1 play in our VYPE Central Texas Game of the Week.
The Grizzlies (1-1 counting the suspended game) have platooned at quarterback thus far, alternating between senior Gabe Renteria (8-13, 128 Yds., 2 TD) and junior Noah Raymond (13-33, 174 Yds.). Senior Braedyn Vanduren-Fuller (36-112, TD) has been the early workhorse back with Brayden Norman (11-156, 14.2 YPC, 2 TD) leading the receivers.
Glenn’s defense will be tested. Second-year coach Malcolm Hill’s Weiss offense erupted for 42 points on the road against 6A power Round Rock and put up 21 points in last week’s showdown loss to top-ranked Lake Travis. Junior Jaxon Schad (39-58, 439 Yds., 6 TD) leads the Wolves’ potent passing attack while tacking on another 109 yards and a rushing touchdown. Sophomore Trae Collins, meanwhile, has already amassed 210 rushing yards on 31 carries (6.8 YPC) to balance out the Weiss attack.
The Grizzlies are trying to rebuild from several consecutive losing seasons, including last year’s 1-9 campaign. While a road game at Weiss (1-1) is a tough way for Glenn to open district play, it’s a contest that should provide a good early indication of the Grizzlies’ progress under their new coach.

POWER GRID: VYPE DFW Volleyball Rankings | Allen Soars to Top Spot, BNHS, Hebron, Wylie Headline Title Race
09 Sep, 2026
Wylie's Julia Hudgins (Lamar commit)
Jackson DiPasquale (VYPE)
As far as heavyweights go in the Dallas area, Allen is positioning itself as one of the most complete rosters in Texas. More than the Eagles’ 25-2 record, it’s the caliber of opponents they’ve taken down that commands attention — including Byron Nelson, Hebron, Flower Mound, Mansfield, Plano East, Prestonwood Christian Academy, and Seven Lakes.
Two-time defending state champion Byron Nelson (20-3) is on a mission for the elusive three-peat, a feat last achieved in Class 6A by Hebron from 2015-17. The Hawks, coincidentally, are on a tear of their own, sitting at 23-6 after winning 19 of their last 20 matches entering district play.
Wylie (22-4) has taken its game to another level, while McKinney Boyd (19-5) has emerged as one of the fall’s more welcome surprises. Flower Mound (15-6) and Duncanville (26-4) remain firmly in the mix, with Plano West, Mansfield, North Forney, Lake Ridge, and Heath close behind.
Meanwhile, Eagle Mountain has shown no signs of regression after moving up to Class 5A, boasting a 24-5 record after capturing last year’s 4A Division II title. Argyle (23-5) remains as commanding as ever, while Reedy (16-6) continues to climb into the forefront.
The tournament slate is in the rearview — now, it’s time to see who separates themselves when the stakes rise.
*** The second section shows the team’s current record (per MaxPreps as of 9/9/2026)
