Boom!
The Anderson Trojans rode a series of explosive plays to surge to a convincing 37-14 win over College Station Friday night (9/12) at House Park in our VYPE Austin Central Texas Game of the Week.
The evening started quietly enough when senior running back Caleb Crenshaw bull-horned his way into the end zone from 2 yards out to give Anderson the early lead.
College Station, however, along with their Aggieland partners in crime A&M Consolidated, have dominated Austin-area teams over the past few years. So, it was no surprise when the Panthers answered back. Senior quarterback Keaton Johnson tied the game with a 21-yard touchdown strike late in the first quarter, then put the Panthers on top 14-7 with a 3-yard plunge early in the second.
Then the Trojan firework began.
After a delay of game call wiped out an Anderson field goal, College Station blocked the second attempt – only to see Anderson holder Liam McMillian make a senior play by scooping up the football and tying the game on a 13-yard scamper. Next, following a Panthers punt that pinned the Trojans down on their own 2 yard-line, Crenshaw burst off left tackle and outraced the defenders for a 98-yard touchdown to propel Anderson to a 21-14 halftime lead.
The Trojans then pulled away in the third quarter. After senior Ryan Ostboe increased the lead with a 39-yard field goal, junior quarterback Cove Darbyshire (15-22, 189 yds, TD) found senior Yaheim Riley in the corner of the end zone for a 16-yard score that made it 31-14 Anderson. Crenshaw (32-228, 7.1 YPC, 3 TD) capped off a monster night with a 61-yard rumble to close out the scoring at 37-14 after a missed PAT.
College Station (0-1, 0-3) hosts crosstown rival A&M Consolidated Friday night (9/12). Anderson (1-0, 3-0), now the only undefeated team remaining in District 12-5A-2, will also face A&M Consolidated on Friday 9/26 after this week’s Bye. VYPE will broadcast that game.
