Halfway to Jerry World: VYPE's Ranking powered by Lone Star College shows the path to title
21 Oct, 2026
Cypress Lakes moves into the VYPE Rankings.
Fall break wrapped up last week, which means we’ve officially reached the halfway point of the 2026 high school football season. Sixteen weeks of football will ultimately culminate at Jerry World — AT&T Stadium — so the big question is: Where do things stand as we head into the second half?
Week 8 delivered plenty of fireworks across the Houston area, with several big-time results shaking up the landscape.
Dickinson handed previously undefeated Barbers Hill a lopsided defeat, while Shadow Creek took care of business against its neighbors at Manvel. Tomball flexed its muscle against an undefeated Klein squad, and Cy Lakes made a statement by knocking off Cy-Fair to break into the VYPE Top 25.
Those results have helped reshape the conversation as teams jockey for playoff positioning and look to build momentum heading into the home stretch.
In Class 5A, things largely went according to plan, with no teams losing ground in the rankings. The same held true in the private school ranks, where the established contenders continued to hold their positions.
But with district races heating up and playoff spots beginning to come into focus, there is still plenty of football left to be played.
Want to know which teams are rising, who needs to make a move and what matchups could shake up the rankings this week?
Tune in to VYPE’s On My Whistle podcast on YouTube for a breakdown of the biggest storylines and what to watch as the race toward Jerry World continues.

McKinney Boyd at Prosper, Children’s Health Stadium
Prosper enters this game in a 3-way tie for second place in District 6-6A with Prosper Walnut Grove and Dallas Jesuit. The Eagles are 6-1 overall, and their only setback has been to nationally ranked Allen. QB Tyler Alberts has thrown for 1,581 yards and 21 TDs for Prosper. McKinney Boyd is 2-5 this year and 1-9 vs. Prosper dating back to 2006.
Ennis at Mansfield Timberview, Vernon Newsome Stadium
A battle for first place will happen when these two clash in a District 7-5A Division II game. Timberview enters ranked No. 5 in the state and is 7-0. Ennis is 4-3 heading into this game, but both teams are 4-0 in district games. Junior QB Steven Hall has thrown for 1,584 yards and 25 TDs this season.
Friday, Oct. 23
Colleyville Heritage at Argyle, Argyle ISD Stadium
This District 3-5A Division II game got a lot more interesting with Hayes Hackney being declared ineligible on Tuesday. Colleyville Heritage enters with a 4-3 mark and 1-1 in district play. QB Lane Vargas is coming off an 8-TD passing game last week for the Panthers. Argyle puts a 7-game winning streak on the line.
Dallas Jesuit at Allen, Eagle Stadium
Jesuit, as mentioned earlier, is tied for second in the district with a 3-1 mark. Jesuit knocked off previously unbeaten Prosper Walnut Grove earlier this year, but is coming off a loss to Prosper. Allen has posted 70 points the last two weeks and 65 three weeks ago.
DeSoto at Cedar Hill, Longhorn Stadium
Not that long ago this would’ve been a must-see game. DeSoto (5-2) is still one of the top teams in the state and has won 5 in a row after a slow start. Cedar Hill (2-5) got a win last week vs. Mansfield Legacy, which included a 96-yard fumble return by Kansas State pledge Jeron Allen II. One storyline is whether Nicholas Ward will be back coaching for Cedar Hill this week.
Duncanville at Waxahachie, Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium
This is a battle for sole possession of second place in District 11-6A and both are 3-1 in districts, with the 1 loss for both coming to North Crowley. Duncanville is 4-3 overall, while Waxahachie is 6-1. Duncanville is 5-1 in this series. Duncanville’s defense — which has given up 22 points in a 3-game win streak — is led by Chris Jackson Jr.’s 47 tackles.
Lewisville at Flower Mound, Neil E. Wilson Jaguar Stadium
Does Laykon Brassfield return this week? The QB is hopeful to get his appeal turned over. He led the Fighting Farmers to a 3-0 mark before being ruled ineligible. Lewisville has won all 4 since and is sitting at 3-0 in District 5-6A play. Flower Mound is 7-1 and 2-1 in district games. This will be a heck of a showdown.
Plano West at Coppell, Buddy Echols Field
A week ago, Coppell (5-2) was sitting in a tie for first place, but got upset by Lake Highlands. Now, the Cowboys are 3-1 in district play and are in second place. Plano West (3-4) is tied for third with Plano with a 2-2 mark. These two haven’t played since 2023, but Coppell is 4-0 in the recent matchups.
Dallas Parish Episcopal at Plano Prestonwood Christian, Lion Stadium
This TAPPS Division I District 1 game will showcase two of the state powers in recent years. Parish Episcopal is 6-3 overall and 4-1 in district, tied for second with Frisco Christian Academy — and a game back of Argyle Liberty Christian. Prestonwood is 4-3, but only 2-2 in district play. RB Jaxon McKinney ran for 190 yards and 3 TDs last week for Episcopal.
Arlington James Martin vs. Arlington Mirabeau B. Lamar, Maverick Stadium
Arlington Martin has another revenge game of sorts this week, playing a Lamar team it lost to last year, which snapped a 6-year winning streak. Dating back to 2004, Martin is 16-6 against the Vikings. At 7-0 coming into this game, the Warriors have matched the total wins of the last two seasons combined. Senior Javian Jones-Priest had 161 total yards and 5 touchdowns last week for Martin in a 45-20 win over Arlington Bowie. The Vikings are fighting for the final playoff spot and are currently tied with Bowie and Arlington with a 2-2 district mark.
