Can you believe May is already here? It seems like just yesterday school was starting, and we were getting ready for our first season of covering high school sports here at the magazine. A lot has happened this year, and while this May issue is another great one, look for our “2008 Year End Review” next month, in June.
We have a lot of exciting things going on here at the magazine! First, we are changing the name of High School Sports the Magazine. Get ready for Vype Magazine! Nothing will change about our magazine except the name brand, and you can go to Vype.com to check out our newly re-designed website and join our Vype member network for FREE. Also, this June, Vype Magazine (High School Sports the Magazine) will be unveiling our first, and the state’s first, High School Football-only Preview. That’s right, a full-color, 260-page, statewide publication dedicated to the high school kids, coaches and communities around the state. The 2008 High School Football Preview will cover al 208 teams in Arkansas, be the same quality as our monthly magazine, and will be sold for ONLY $7.99 at thousands of locations including: Wal-Mart, local grocery stores, convenient stops and newsstands. You can order your copy online today, or wait until it releases in June. Chris Morentson, from ESPN, is even writing a special column for the 2008 Arkansas High School Football Preview!
While I’m on a roll, why not throw one more exciting announcement into the mix? This summer, July 11 and 12, Vype Magazine will be hosting our first National 7 on 7 tournament at the University of Arkansas campus! The vision is for this event to grow each year into a true National Championship! The Vype Magazine Select 7 on 7, Presented by McDonald’s restaurants, will feature somewhere in the neighborhood of 32 teams from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Louisiana and potentially Texas. Area teams like: Fayetteville, Springdale Har-ber, Springdale, Rogers, Rogers-Heriatge, Bentonville, Shiloh Christian, Gentry, Gravette, Siloam Springs, Harrison and Ft. Smith Northside are just a few competing. These teams will be competing at the highest level and the U of A on Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12. Keep looking in the magazine and at Vype.com for more information. This tournament is open to the public so put it on your calendar this summer!
This month, our cover story is on the art of jumping in high school track. We also feature one of the best pitching staffs in the state at Farmington,take an early look at quarterback situations in the 7A West heading into spring practices, highlight Fayetteville girl’s soccer and Union Christian diamond dandy Casey Mikula.
