“He’s a very good corner,” said Bentonville coach Barry Lunney Sr. “I know a lot of times, receivers look out there as a mismatch because he’s not real tall, but he’s got a good vertical and is a 300-meter hurdler … So he knows how to finish. That’s a tough race.”

For the first time this season, the VYPE Impact Player of the Game and the VYPE Athlete of the Week are the same as Bentonville’s Chase Baggett helped the Tigers pick off top-ranked Fort Smith Southside during a 14-7 win.

Baggett, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior cornerback, had three interceptions in the upset for the then-No. 2 Tigers. His second interception led to what proved to be the game-winning touchdown and his third interception came late in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

For his performance, Baggett is the VYPE Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4.

Baggett returned his second interception 55 yards to set up a 17-yard scoring drive. Quarterback Pearson Gean completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Taylor Lyles to make it 14-0 with 31 seconds remaining in the first half.
