I want to first thank all those involved with the inaugural Vype Select 7 on 7 Tournament Presented by McDonald’s. We had 20 plus volunteers who made it possible. It was a HUGE success with over 30 teams, 1,000 plus people per day and over 850 high school athletes on the campus at the University of Arkansas July 11 & 12. There is no question that the tournament would not have been possible without the support of the McDonald’s Restaurants of Northwest Arkansas. A Special thanks to Bill and Walter Mathews for their amazing support of this event.
We also have to extend our gratitude to the Fort Smith area McDonald’s operators, Jim Hadley, John Hadley and Michael Hadley. McDonald’s has been such a large part of our success this first year, and for that, we at Vype Magazine say one big THANK YOU! Please join us all over Western Arkansas in thinking McDonald’s for all their support of high school athletics and for promoting healthy lifestyles to families everywhere. Stop in today to check out some of their new items, like my NEW favorite, the “Southern Style Chicken Sandwich.” Oh, did I mention that Pulaski Academy (of Little Rock) beat Sherman, TX for the tournament title? Arkansas (P.A.) 41, Texas (Sherman) 14.
It’s that time again, August is finally here, school is starting back and that means High School Sports is back in full swing! Vype Magazine will be searching long to bring you great coverage of all the action. Area teams have started two-a-days to gett ready for that first Friday night as well as Volleyball and Golf are starting up. Tennis and Cross Country are right around the corner as well. We’re in the Game and we are ready for a great second year covering your kids, your schools and your communities.
Volleyball takes center court in the month’s issue with a high-flying cover story on how the power of the sport has shifted to Western Arkansas over the past decade. Another big shift has taken place at Siloam Springs where deep playoff runs and state titles have replaced what once were not-so-dazzling programs.
In Feature 3, we putt around with Rogers senior golfer Hunter Mobley, who competed on the AJCA this summer and is the son of Gravette football assistant Duke Mobley. Then it’s back to the River Valley for a feature on Fort Smith Northside quarterback Dax Dupire, a returning starter who’ll be one of the Grizzles key factors this season.
Also don’t miss Triple Play with strong-armed Har-Ber quarterback Zach Faust, One-on-One with Bentonville turnover-machine Jean-Claude Rodriguez and, of course, complete coverage of the VYPE Select 7-on-7 Tournament, presented by McDonald’s, in our LockerTalk section.
